Prepare for school changes

Clackamas Community College students can expect seven changes come this summer. These changes are most likely being implemented as a way to increase student success.
This is to be expected, as the college is going to be judged more and more from the state on student performance as it relates to money funded from the state legislature. As
Jim Huckestein, CCC Vice President, said in an interview earlier this year, “ (The state) is developing metrics to judge us based on how well w e’re doing, like how many degrees
do we do and how many certificates, and how many people move from pre-coliege to college level, and things like th a t" He w ent on to say th a t CCC is n o w "... concentrating
on performance, much more than we have in the past. We can’t necessarily afford to be the cheapest community college in the state. We have to be a good perform er as well."
So, It looks like w ith th e changes com ing th is summ er, th e college Is making m ore o f a concerted e ffo rt to bum p up stu d e n t perform ance. Here are some things

or her long term forecasting plans; or perhaps, it’s just an attem pt
to make registering fo r classes a little b it m ore com plicated.

late fo r a class, you can expect th e $50 fee to be added
to your account in fo u r days tim e. W hile th e m otives fo r

fee may be a little understandable, it is still slightly annoying th a t
trying to g e t in to a class late w ill be so hard. Things come up and
students change th e ir m inds.Registering shouldn’t be so hard.

Incomplete grades
Procrastinators rejoice! Basically, students w ho are w ithin passing
if they just finish a few essential assignments will have the chance
to pass successfully w h e th e r it is an exam, paper, assignment,

W ith th e legality o f m arijuana fo r 21+ year old students this July, CCC
has set some ground rules. Students under th e influence o f marijuana
w ill be considered th e same as drunken students on campus. Similarly,
m arijuana is p ro h ib ite d on campus. So d o n ’t even try it!
