ArtidTidture ced@clackamas.edu Wednesday, May 23, 201‘2 The Clackamas Print j W ildm an says ‘the power is yours’ By Isaac Soper Arts & Culture Editor We all should give ourselves a nice big pat yon the back, because we have made great steps in the direction o f utterly destroying , our ipianet. We’ve giyen M other Nature the fin ger and thrown our smoldering ! cigarette butts in her face. The G ulf of Mexico dead- zone, thè G ulf o f Mexico, oil spill (do we hate the G ulf or what?); 1 the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (an- island litter-àlly made out o f trash th a t is estimated to be 1 the size o f the United States j that floats in the N orth Pacific^ Gyre), the list goes on. We are J good at What we do'. Portland has been nariied time and again as “America’s Greenest City,” but what does that really mean? Sure we have com posting; we’re bicycle friendly; ,we have a light rail system. T hink of all of tne steps that we’v e m a d e to thank and protect the natural world. W hat ... if I told you that what Earth needs is for us to leave ,her the . hell alone, not to build more , solar panels and Cat more sóy- based products? The best thing we can d o ,fot the world is to d stop messing with her. We liyei too large, and our | livesare too big for our own good. If we all worked and went l to® school within a few miles . o f where we lived, it would be great, no need for cars or airlines, bu t that’s not the case, and dùe to companies like G M 1 and BP and all o f • the other slifneballs with, an acronym, we , are going to continue raping the Earth until she is dead. Maybe w&ll get lucky and she’ll kill us first with a huge natural disas ter. I’m hoping for fire-whirls 5 (tornadoes made out o f fire)? * - It doesn’t matter what side-of . 1 the fence you are op, 'whether its the side o f chaining your self to a tree to save a forest o r . the side where you are burn- ? ing down the rainforest with a flamethrower the man With the ... flamethrower will almost always win. Sure you may ’not give up, but you won’t look much differ- I ent from braised lamb when he’s done with you.
