This past week, men’s basketball got their game
back, while women’s basketball lost their grip on
their winning streak.
The men’s basketball team was defeated by
Chemeketa last Wednesday 70-85 but dominated
over Lane on Saturday, winning the game 96-78.
Women’s basketball was defeated in both of
their games: they lost 47-55 to Chemeketa and
42-78 to Lane. This is a big upset to the team's six
wins in a row.
“It was a big letdown after knocking off the top-
ranked team in the previous game,” said Women’s
Basketball Coach Jim Martineau. ‘1 think we
expected to show up and the opponent was going
to give it to is.”
“Obviously, we struggled most of die game
offensively,” he added. 'The first half, our defense
did a good job keeping it close. We were down 25-
31 with less than four minutes to play in the half...
Lane [closed] the half on a 9-0 run.
“[The] second half [was] more of the same; we
battled hard, but their depth was too much for us.
The last 10 minutes got really sloppy.”
This brings the women’s standings to 5-4 in
league play and 15-8 in season play.
The men’s standings are now 6-3 in league play
and 14-10 in season play.
Both tire men’s and women’s teams will face
off against Portland Community College in a home
game today. The women will play at 5:30 p.m. and
die men at 7:30 p.m. in the Randall Gym.
Their next game will be Feb. 9 in Albany
against Linn-Benton. The women will play at 4
p.m., and the men will play at 6 p.m.
