Andrea Simpson fi Sports Editor ■ ■ » §1 ■ I Unplanned Preiinancy? You Deserve to KNOW: The Lady Cougs played a two-day volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday at Mt. Hood Community College. The Dorian Harris Halloween Classic, named after a former coach who started the tourney at Mt. Hood, had 12 teams participate. Leading in kills was Sarah Hall with 63 and a 33-percent kill efficiency. Melita Elliot led accu rate assists with a total of 146. Carley Johnson led the team with 100-percent accuracy for serves, with Lindsay Ables close behind with 99 percent. The Cougars tied for seventh place with Bellevue Community College. “I felt we played mediocre volleyball. I don’t think we played to the best of our abilities,” said Head Coach Kathie Woods. “However, there were good performances. Carley had another good tournament where she played consistently well. She led the team in digs and serves. In the past, outfits have included Snow Whi and the seven dwarves - with more than sev dwarves - Santa and Santa’s elves and even i Energizer bunnies, complete with Coach Woo dressed as the drum-beating bunny. “We have been everything from football ph ers, to baseball players, to the Men in Blaci Woods said. “It’s a fun tradition, one that evei one really gets into.” This tournament, however, was not pure a fun event. The Halloween Classic is al the unofficial preview for the Northwi Athlete Association of Community Collet (NWAACCs). Coaches use this tourney to determine th teams’ weaknesses and what they need to w< on before going to the NWAACCs. “We need to regroup and continue to wa hard,” Woods said. “We struggle with confiden at times, being a fairly new team. We need work on recovering quickly after our mistakes The Lady Cougars play in the NWAAd tournament on Nov. 15. * * • • • • Today, the women’s volleyball team will play Chemeketa Community College at home. The game starts at 7 p.m. Chemeketa Community College is currently ranked fourth in the Southern Region.
