Art ulture Clackamas Print 3 Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007 What is your favorite child hood TV show? Megan Holer The Clackamas Print SCREAM AT THE BEACH “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Located at 1802 Jantzen Beach Center, Portland, OR, 97217 Open tonight from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eddie Peraza www.screamatthebeach.com “Power Rangers. I hehaunted Tiffany Abernethy houses “Rugrats.” Pirates: Isla De Los Muertos If someone is looking for some real scares, he or she best keep out of this Pirates Den. At the end of the day, it might as well be a set from the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie that is overrun by small children in black cloaks. There are a few trippy effects, but no real scares. It is a great, creepy exhibit for young children, but anyone over 10 will probably yawn. Return of the Voodoo Woman Chris Maher “Spongebob Squarepants. This exhibit gets an “A” for theatrics. After leaving a well-decorat ed bayou hüt, visitors are cast into the abyss of a house. Its deep est parts are faintly reminiscent of the film People Under the Stairs. The ride is capable of inspiring a few chills - that is, until a zombie girl can be seen writhing around on bed sheets like she is in a bad Cher video. After realizing that if they were real zombies they would be trying to eat people and not walking past gurgling, the chills dis sipate. Erickah Lummus “Ninja Turtles.” Hayden Institute for the Criminally Insane If there is only money enough for one haunted house, this is the one to see. There are real scares, especially if movies like Silent Hill or The Grudge inspire even the faintest creeps. The turns and door ways are very unclear; they feel less like a walkthrough and more like ah actual place where crazy, homicidal maniacs are forgotten. There is a bloody hallway that is an impressive element. CamEvil Funhouse and Freakshow Former Clackamas ASG president Kristin Madden does a little haunting at Janzten Beach. This attraction was a lot like walking through the hall in high school where all the goths and Juggalos (Insane Clown Posse fans) hung out. The only real thrill that can be derived from the funhouse is the one that comes after being accidentally fondled by one of the teenage actors. Young children will be traumatized but not entertained.
