The Cougars finished off the weekend in fine fashion as Cristofaro tossed a complete game three-hitter and struck out nine in CCC’s 7-1 victory over Highline CC. Clackamas is ranked number one in the latest NWAACC coaches’ poll and has an overall record of 22-3, including a 10-0 record in Southern Division play. Clackamas took on Lower Columbia College in a make up doubleheader on Tuesday in Longview, Wash; results were not available at press time. The Cougars travel to Gresham today to take on Mt Hood CC in a doubleheader beginning at 3 pan. Jeeni Schantin took first in the women’s javelin tor the B group, registering a throw of 42.31 meters. “The weather wasn't that good,” Sclrantin said, “but I still got in two solid throws.” Also for the women, Tricia Bollier took first place in the pole vault for the B group with a jump of 3.40 meters. “I think, compared to the other athletes, she rose to the occasion,” Coach Keoni McHone said. With it raining all day, a lot of the women were scared to even jump because of the slickness of the pole. For the men, Mike Simmons took second place at the Oregon Invite for javelin, throwing 66.11 meters and also achieving a personal record. ‘T think he stepped it up,” McHone said, “and he showed some strong consistency.” Also for the men, Wesley Keller, nursing a ham string injury, took second place in both the 100 and 200-metef dash for the B group. Keller has had a long season, dealing with injuries to his hip, hamstring and quadriceps. “I think he ran aggressive,” McHone said, “consid ering his injuries.” With that rainy weekend behind them, the team looks ahead. “Our plan for this weekend is to just keep lowering our marks and prepare ourselves for the championship phase of the season,” McHone said. This weekend, they will be at the Western Oregon University meet in Monmouth and NWAACC multi event championships in Spokane, Wash. Last Thursday, the team split a doubleheader vs. Lane CC. The series was highlight ed by strong pitching perfor mances and a rare triple play turned by the good guys; In game one, Clackamas won 4-1 behind a strong start by freshman pitcher Jeff Bjorklund. “I got ahead by throwing strikes early, and the defense behind me made plays,” Bjorklund said. The second game showcased another solid pitching perfor mance, this time by sopho more Jesse Jensen. However, the game had a different out come, as the Cougs fell 3-2 in an intense contest that went down to the wire. “Our bats went cold in the second game, and LCC pitched well and played good D,” Bjorklund relayed. On Friday, Clackamas Contributed by Tracy Swisher played a make-up game and dominated an overmatched Freshman Jeff Bjorklund pitches against Lane CC last week.
