Friday, Clackamas got an RBI single from Ooley in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Heather Rightley from second base with the winning run in the Cougar’s 5-4 game one win over Mt Hood CC. Ooley was 2-4 at the plate, Schell continued her strong play with two hits and two RBI, and Katie King had two doubles in the game. Janelle Cristofaro tossed a six-tatter to get the victory on the mound. “We kept on battling all the way to the end, even after Mt Hood tied the game in the top of the seventh,” said Fiskum. “Our girls have anever-say- die attitude; they just buckled down and went out and won the game.” Game two was over early as Erin Snyder bombed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and Ooley hit her first collegiate home run, a two- run shot, in the bottom of the second, as Clackamas ran away to a 9-1 vic tory. Jamie Torgersen gave up only three hits and struck out 13 Saints in only five innings netting her 10th vic tory of lhe season. The Cougars played Chemeketa CC last Saturday, and got rude treatment from the visitors as the Chiefs swept a doubleheader from Clackamas to take over second place in tiie division, winning 14-5 and 4-3. “We were really competitive all day, we just didn’t get any breaks,” said Fiskum. “Especially the first game. We battled hard and the final score was not indicative of the effort that we gave.” Mondragon led Cougar hitters in game one with a single and a three- run homer; while Schell became the 10th Cougar hitter this season to hit at least one home run with her solo Baseball shot in the fourth. Torgersen battled a back strain all game, but she took tiie loss. Clackamas jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game two, and a tight strike zone allowed tiie Chiefs to come back with tiie help of eight walks to claim a 4-3 victory. The Cougars traveled to Coos Bay Tuesday to take on Southwestern Oregon CC; results were not avail able at press time. The Cougars take on Lower Columbia College on Friday in the last home doubleheader oftiieseason. Game time is 3 p.m. at the Cougar Softball Complex. The Cougars will then travel to Vancouver, Washington to take on Clark College in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday. Field events prosper May 9 vs. Chemeketa . Shantin threw a final distance of 45.97 meters in the Women’s Javelin Throw to place first. Right now Shantin leads the NWAAC in the Javelin Throw by 12 feet. “The guys did really well in the Discus Throw. Quintin [Baxter] threw well,” said Kegg. Baxter threw a final distance of 42.10 meters in the Men’s Discus Throw, placing seventh. Rhys Perkins threw a final dis tance of 39.29 meters to place eighth. “Baxter had a PR in the dis cus - he added 3 feet,” said Assistant Coach Keoni McHone, who also coaches field events. “Lindsey [McKillip] dropped the Steeple Chase [school record] by 30 seconds. She set it earlier this year. She leads the NWAAC by one minute,” said Kegg. McKillip placed fifth in the Women’s 3000-Meter Steeple Chase with a final time of 11 minutes 55.88 seconds. “It may not look like she did well, but she competed against the -eighth ranked in American history,” said Kegg. “Perkins had a solid perfor mance in the Hammer Throw. He was only one foot under his PR,” said McHone. Perkins threw a final distance of 48.78 meters in the Men’s Hammer Throw, placing fifth. Baxter threw a final distance of 46.43 meters' to finish sixth. “The Hammer Throw is stacking up to be intense. There are seven guys within seven feet of each other. There’s intense competition here get ting the men prepared,” said McHone. “[The invitational was a] good tune-up for the team to get ready for the [Southern Region Championships],” said Kegg. The Southern Region Championships will be held at Mt. Hood CC, Saturday, May 13.
