Clackamas athletes won eight
individual events and two relays last
weekend at the Cougar Invitational
held at the Clackamas track.
Kasey Kauffman uncorked a
throw of 218-07 in the men’s ham
mer, a personal best and the best
throw in the NWAACC this season.
It is also one of the best throws in the
nation for junior college athletes,
according to Head Coach Jack Kegg.
Other highlights of the meet
included John Butkey winning the
men’s 1500 with a time of 4:10.42;
the men’s 4x100 relay team shaving
two seconds off of their season-best
time, finishing second to Lane CC;
thé men’s 4x400 relay team winning
their race, while the Clackamas “B”
team finishing second and Troy
Sexton and Brian Bernard finishing
1-2 in the 110 hurdles, each with per

and Bernard in 15.33.
“Kauffman’s throw was unreal; it
was definitely the highlight of the
day for the men. Casey also ran two
strong relay legs, with our fastest
split time in the 4x400 (49.8),’-’ said
Kegg. “The men’s 4x100 ran their
best race of the year, putting pressure
on a strong Lane team. If they keep
improving, the regionals may get
interesting.”
On the women’s side, Nicole
Sprauer threw the hammer 157-05,
getting within three inches of the
school record. Jetina Byrd improved
three seconds over last week in the
400 hurdles, winning the event wit
