ASG elections up and running Presidential Candidates Vice Presidential Candidates Christopher Cox Marlies Berney Brandi Bean Christina Miller Liz Pike Campaign Motto: “A history, a future.. .If you want to be heard, I’m your man.” Campaign Motto: “Experience, hard work and dedication.” Campaign Motto: “Brandi Bean knows what it means to be a leader.” Campaign Motto: VOTE LP for VP in 2003! Vote for Liz, she knows the Student Government biz! Presidential candidate Marlies Berney believes the student body deserves to be better informed. She wants to improve the lines of commu nication so that students understand and have a voice in issues affecting the school. She is the current Legislative Fundraising Officer and was last year’s Senator to the Legislative Fundraising Officer. Additionally, she serves as the northwest regional rep resentative for the American Student Association of Community Colleges. A 2001 graduate of North Clackamas Christian School, Berney is a member of Clackamas’ cheerleading club, is president of the school’s French club and aspires to someday restore a Ford Mustang. Berney is working towards an AAOT degree with an emphasis on foreign language and foreign busi ness. She hopes to attend Wheaton College in Illinois and believes her calling will one day take her to South America or France as a mis sionary. Vice Presidential candidate Brandi Bean believes she has the ideas and experience needed to real ly make a difference. She envisions a leadership team that improves the parking situation, creates a student lounge and develops more campus activities. Bean brings her leadership expe rience all the way from the Gooding Accelerated Learning Center in Gooding, Idaho. As a junior she was student body treasurer; as a senior she reached such heights as student body president, class president and head of the fundraising committee. An All-American Scholar, Bean was also a valedictorian who received a Presidential Achievement Award for Academic Excellence. Her hobbies include photogra phy, planning events, finding stray animals to take care of, making peo ple laugh and spending time with her husband. As a secondary education major, she aspires to specialize in an alter native style of teaching. Campaign Motto: “I have the expe rience...the enthusiasm and the responsibility to get things done well.” Presidential candidate Christopher Cox believes students deserve more money and more fun. If elected, he hopes to establish a fee grant to sup plement tuition waivers, double child care grants to $40,000, double text book grants to $10,000 and create a more active campus life. His student government back ground includes his current position as Senator of Campus Activities and last year’s station as Publicity Committee Chair. A 1998 graduate of Estacada HS, he raised over $10,000 for Doembecher Hospital during his four-year tenure as the school’s Doembecher Fundraising President. With his love of the outdoors, Cox enjoys such sports as rock climbing and waterskiing. He has worked five years as a youth basketball coach and was a firefighter for two years. A Spanish history major, he aspires to attend the University of Barcelona after graduating from Clackamas. Vice Presidential candidate Christina Miller wants to ensure that ASG fulfills its duties to the campus and its students. If elected, she will strive to maintain affordability and adequate aid for students. Textbook grants, childcare grants and tuition are a few of the issues she believes need attention. Miller currently serves the ASG as its Public Affairs Officer. A 2002 graduate of Franklin HS, she gained leadership experience as the sopho more class vice-president, junior class president and senior class spir it commissioner. She enjoys all culinary experi ences, whether the food is Italian, Thai or Chinese. An exercise enthu siast, she bums the calories by run ning, mountain biking, hiking and swimming, Miller also enjoys spending time with her five siblings. Miller looks forward to attending the University of Washington after graduation. Vice Presidential candidate Liz Pike wants to inform students about all that Clackamas can offer. If elected, she hopes to provide improved communication about resources available to students. She also plans to lobby for greater fund ing for the Childcare Grant and the Textbook Grant. Pike currently serves ASG as the Officer to Clubs. A 1999 graduate of Oregon City HS, her leadership experience comes from her involve ment as a big sister in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, as a mentor to community youth and as a staff member for the Clackamas County 4-H Summer Camp. Her hobbies include photogra phy, scrapbooking and skateboard ing. Pike has- attended Clackamas for four years and has already earned her general AA. She is enrolled in the school’s medical assistant program and would like to work in a pediatri cian’s office after completion. 'The amazing Chabon' comes to campus Clackamas Community College is set to host an evening with Michael Chabon, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay," in the Gregory Forum on April 29 at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 for general admission and $7 for stu dents. Tickets can be purchased in the ASG office, the library or through Fastixx at 1 -800-992-TIXX. Chabon is best known for his cinematized book “Wonder Boys. ” He is currently working on writing the screenplay for the next Spiderman movie.
