Famous trumpeters come to CCC
News Editor
The CCC Concert Band, directed
by Dave Mills, will host and perform
tonight at Clackamas’ Winter Band
Concert.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. in the
Gregory Forum where the band will
be playing a number of rehearsed
pieces. In addition to Concert Band
performances, Clackamas is proud to
welcome three of the top West Coast
Trumpeters to tonight’s show.
The first trumpeter, Rich Cooper,
has played with a number of Big
Bands and top artists. Cooper played
lead trumpet with the Buddy Rich
Big Band and also in Woodie
Herman’s Big Band. He also spent a
number of years in Las Vegas per
forming shows as a back-up trum
peter for such entertainers as Frank
Sinatra, Wayne Newton and Tony
Bennett. He even toured with the late
“King of Rock and Roll,” Elvis
Presley. Cooper teaches lessons with
“practical and usable knowledge,” by
appointment, according to his infor
mational handout.
Mark Gaulke, a University of
Portland graduate, has been a first
call lead trumpet player on high
demand in the Portland Metro area.
He’s worked many shows and has
backed numerous nationally known
acts that come to Portland, including
the Broadway hit Chicago. He has
worked locally with Norman Laden’s
concert series and also played in the
Woodie Hite Big Band.
The third featured trumpeter for
the show tonight is Dick Titterington.
Titterington is new to the area. He
has spent many years on the road per
forming for Broadway shows such as
Titanic, Chicago, West Side Story,
and even spent a six-year run on the
national tour of the hit musical
“Cats.”
“He is really an excellent trum
peter,” said Director Dave Mills.
Titterington also has a full
length album currently in stores
titled “Amber Eyes” which was
released in 1997 and has “gar
nered
favorable
reviews,”
according to Jazz Times maga
zine.
The cost for the evening is $5.
The show is tonight at 7:30 p.m
in the Gregory Forum.
