The Cougars won the match by scores of 30-25,30-25,25-30 and 30- 21, and helped to gain momentum as the team gears up for the end of the season. Ashley Cadotte led the Cougar attack with 15 kills, Hayley Bentz had 13 kills, Lindsay Shiely had 10 kills and three aces and Jaime Herrera had five kills, 15 assists and 10 digs. The day prior, Clackamas traveled to Southwestern Oregon CC and claimed their sixth league victory. SWOCC went down in four games, by scores of 34-32, 30-20, 27-30 and 30-22. Some of the statistical leaders were Sheily with 15 kills, a 34% kill efficiency and five blocks; Cadotte, who had 13 kills; Bentz with seven kills and Tara Andrews, who had 31 assists, 14 digs and four aces. The Cougars were also really balanced with their digs, with Abrah Pond, Ashley Walbridge, Bentz, and Herrera all racking up 13 apiece. Getting both wins on the road against SWOCC and Umpqua was something that the Cougars haven’t done in at least three years, and this time it helped qualify them to go to the NWAACC Championships on Nov. 21-23. “We had a good game after a long ride down there,” Head Coach Kathie Woods said. “The girls played with intensity and it was nice to have two wins on this road trip.” Before this game, Clackamas played a tournament at Shoreline CC on Nov. 1-2. CCC claimed the con solation title, which was equal to third place. On the first day of the tourna ment, the Cougars beat Skagit Valley CC and Walla Walla CC, with both opponents averaging less than 20 points per game. But they hit a road block on the next day when they fell to Chemeketa CC, 30-21, 10-30, 21- 30 and 26-30. Though Chemeketa snapped their streak of wins, the Cougars went on to defeat Grays Harbor CC and Skagit Valley again to finish third behind Shoreline and Chemeketa. Some of the big performances assists and a 100% serve percentage. Sheily led the offense with 12 kills and also came up with nine blocks, Herrara had 26 digs and Abrah Pond had 18 total digs. After all of these games were com pleted, the Cougars were sitting with a 34-15 record overall and were tied for third place in the Southern Division with their next opponent, Linn-Benton CC . These two teams will square off tonight at 7 p.m. in the Randall Gym. The winner of this match will go to the playoffs as the third seed in the NWAACC tournament, which takes place Nov. 21-23 in Spokane, WA. “ThegMs played with intensity and it was nice to- have two wins on this road Wp. On Oct.30, the Cougars played a home game against Chemeketa and lost in five matches, 30-22,30-25,17- 30,24-30 and 10-15. They dominated the first two games, but found them selves in a tight situation on the third and never quite recovered. The Cougars have a habit of stumbling as soon as a team gets them in a tight sit uation, and they can’t really recover. Andrews had a nice game with 22 DICK CLOUSER Contributed Abrah Pond hits the ball back over the net at a game that the Cougars played in last week. After two big wins this weekend, Clackamas now has a league record of 7- 4, and will be playing their final game of the 2002 reg ular season at home tonight against Linn-Benton CC. Soccer: first playoff game will be at home Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 29- December 1 Thanksgiving Tournament HOME Friday, November 22 vs. Concordia University JV @ 7 p.m. HOME continued from page 10 “We just started a little flat, a little unorganized, and they capi talized on that,” Nelson said. “They got two quick goals and then we started playing our game, dominating and playing well, but we couldn’t finish. I think we just had too many things to think about. We already “No matter > how we end, BFs going to be a successful^ season for a £ first-year Bam,” , ,Z Tuesday, November 26 vs. Linfield JV @ 6 p.m. HOME Soccer Coach knew we were in the playoffs, and a lot of these girls have never been in a playoff situation before; a lot of them have never been on winning teams. So I think there was just so much going on that it was really hard to stay focused for this game, as much as we tried not to talk about the playoffs.” Now that all of the league games are completed, the Cougars are getting ready for the playoffs by having a solid week of practices and preparing for the playoff atmosphere. As the regu lar season champion of the Southwestern Division, Clackamas will no doubt be feel ing some extra pressure, but they certainly won’t be needing some extra motivation. “We have a playoff game, and it’s a ‘you win, you move on, if you don’t you’re done,’” Nelson said. “So there’s a lot of motiva tion right there to do well. I think we’ll be ready for the game. “I’m pretty happy with overall how we’ve done. I think we’ve gotten a lot farther than anybody, probably including myself thought we’d do. No matter how we end, it’s going to be a suc cessful season for a first-year team. Yeah, we want to get to that final game, and yeah, we want to win it... we’ll see.” The Cougars will take on Walla Walla CC in the first round of the NWAACC soccer playoffs on Sat., Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. on the Clackamas campus. ^ Doctor John’s Pub Best happy hour in town!
