The Cougars were the victors 103-56, il increasing their overall record to 3-1. ai th ELENA BORYSKA Sports Editor V nt On Saturday, Dec. 1, the Zlackamas women’s basketball earn hosted Pierce College and iominated the whole 40 minutes if play. The Cougars started the ’ame with a three-pointer, and finished by an almost 50 point nargin, with a final score of 103- 56. In the first half of the game, Zlackamas played very well of fensively, scoring 60 points to Pierce College’s 29. Head Coach lim Martineau was very pleased with the way his team played in his blowout victory. “I was real happy that we Support your didn’t play down to the competi tion,” said Martineau. “We got to run a little offense and run some plays...It was good for us.” The only time that Clackamas Leading Scorer against Pierce struggled was in the early min utes of the second half. After that short time of trouble, CCC came back and held Pierce to even fewer points than the 29 that they scored in the first half. Martineau said that the Cougars played hard all game and took care of the basketball, which was im pressive since there is always a chance to become sloppy in such one sided games. “I was pleased with the offen sive effort,” said Martineau. “They went out and played hard. That was a real positive perfor mance and I’m really happy about it. I still think this team is only going to get better as the season goes on.” Clackamas starter Jennie Kooch agrees with Martineau. “In the beginning, we started off slow, and now that the season has gone on, we’re working more as a team,” said Kooch. “We’re progressing as a team instead of individuals.” Kooch also said that this vic tory feels pretty good, but wasn’t much of a challenge. “We got a lot to work on, so it ■ was more like a practice scrim mage for us. We knew that we had to keep our heads in there so we could improve on how we’re playing for our upcoming game.” Kayla Steen had a triple/ double in this game. She had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 11 as sists, which is the first triple/ double in Clackamas women’s basketball in recent school his- tory. Even though this is quite an accomplishment, Steen is quick to downplay it. “I can’t say that it doesn’t feel good, but it’s not a big deal,” said Steen. “I don’t consider it a big deal because there are plenty more games to focus on.” Melissa Gibson contributed 19 points for the Cougars, Cappie Smith had 11 points and six as- Cougar Basketball sists and Regina Joo had 14 points, nine rebounds and six as sists. As the .Cougars prepare for their two upcoming home battles this weekend, they will be doing the same things that they did to prepare for this game: practicing hard and showing up ready to play. But this time, instead of playing a team that they know is not very good, the Cougars will be play ing two teams that they have already faced. On Friday, they play Clark College, who beat them by one point in the cham pionship game of the Thanks giving Tournament. Steen says that they can learn some things from their last meeting. “We know what we’re up against and we can beat them. There are things that we can take from the first game and improve on,” said Steen. On Saturday, Clackamas will be taking on Centralia, whom they have already beaten once. Friday’s game will be played at 7p.m., while Saturday’s starts at 4 p.m. . NICK BARRON / Clackamas Print Clackamas'Jennie Kooch attempts to prevent a Pierce player from Inbounding the basketball.
