ACCA» en Terrorists want us to go to war War will further unite us CHRISTINA MCFARLAND Staff Writer No one likes the idea of war, however, in certain situations it just may be necessary; and I be lieve America has just found it self to be in one of those situa tions. This is simply my opinion, I cannot pretend to know all the facts concerning this tragedy. I can only give you my ideas based upon the information I know. The United States has been directly and purposefully attacked. Over 5,000 innocent people have been murdered whether it be for reasons of reli gion, or the freedoms and liber ties possessed by the United States. Neither of these serve to be sufficient enough to justify one life lost, let alone 5,000. The terrorists that shamefully and barbarically killed those thou sands of Americans must be given a consequence. Punish ment is due. We cannot allow op posing forces to threaten and in timidate the American people. The United States needs to be the one to serve justice for these senseless killings. We cannot al DAN MERYS low these murderers to walk away from this unpunished. Something must be done. This was not only and attack on American civilians, but an at tack on the “American Way of Life.” - Both of these crimes are pun ishable by war. Waging war on those responsible will serve as a consequence for those who have wronged the United States. It may possibly provide some sort of compensation and closure to all affected. Maybe not so much compensation, for there is noth ing to make up for this horrific act. War will also serve as a warn ing to the rest of the world. America cannot and will not be broken. Going to war will strengthen the bonds tion. In the past few weeks our country come and sorrow. Perhaps some good has come of this event in the sense that it has brought everyone in the United States closer. War will fur ther unite us and demonstrate to ev eryone the faith that we, as Ameri cans, have in our country and the pride we possess in everything that we stand for. Staff Writer 1 President George W. Bush is in a very sticky situation. He’s painted himself into a comer by using words like “revenge,” “hunt down” and most distressing, “war.” President George W. Bush is smarter than most people give him credit for, but this thing is building into something bigger than him, big ger than the Presidency, and beyond what the United States is capable of. The people he’s preparing to have slaughtered “en masse” are fa natical beyond all reason. Not a single one of them has any problem with walking into a major U.S. city with a nuclear warhead strapped to his back. You may think that it’s im possible, but up until a month ago, it was impossible to crash planes into the World Trade Center and bring .......... . < them to the ground. Nothing is im possible to people who believe in their cause. The’United States can’t fight what it can’t see. President George W. Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Congress, and the armed forces know this, but they also know that a war will boost plummeting opinion polls. Only one solution therefore, presents itself: Extensive bombing to flush out the enemy, followed by ground troops with or ders to neutralize any signs of resis tance. By neutralize, I mean kill. They will kill anyone who disagrees with their presence. After having bombs dropped on them by a coun try on the other side of the world, 1 think they’re going to be a little dis gruntled, to say the least. Could it get worse? Of course it could. The armed forces are going into a coun try that is already resentful and an gry about the U.S foreign policy and the affect the United States has on it’s culture. Do you see where I’m going here? Hie people of Afghani stan are proud, and not likely to wel come troops with open arms. A war is not what the U.S. wants, not what Afghanistan wants, and definitely not what the innocent people trying to in Afghanistan want. Who wants a war? The people who brought the World Trade Center and the innocence of every American crashing down. What kind of memorial would it be for the thousands of innocent people killed in the attacks if we were to go to war where thousands more innocents die? Do YOU THINK THE U.S. SHOULD GO TO WAR? Charlie Riddle "It depends on what kind of war that would be." "I think we should do what we have to do in order to end it If that includes war, then so be it." Photos and Quotes compiled by Liesl Muggii Attention: Please note these quotes were taken before America's strike. Elena Warmer KristalPuel^^^^^^^^ "I don't think so because too many innocent people would die. It would be more an act of revenge than really finding out who is responsible for it" "I think we should. It would be sad if we killed innocent people, but that's what they did too."
