Despite good pitching and de
cent hitting, the Cougars lost four
games last week against
Chemeketa and Mt. Hood CC.
The Cougars
took on
Chemeketa CC in a home double
header on Tuesday, losing both
games by scores of 1-0 and 10-2.
Aaron Shanks pitched the first
game of the doubleheader, throw
ing six strong innings in the 1-0
loss. Although CCC had seven
hits, they couldn’t put together
any rallies to give Shanks any sup
port. Chemeketa got their single
run in the third inning and made it
hold up with solid pitching and
good defense.
Chemeketa brought out the big
sticks in the nightcap, scoring four
first-inning runs enroute to the 10-
2 victory.
“The second game was totally
unlike the first,” quoted Head
Coach Robin Robinson. “We just
sort of gave up after that first in
ning. We showed a little effort,
but we were pretty drained after
the first game, and we didn’t bring
a good effort.”
Saturday, the Cougars took on
Mt. Hood CC in Gresham.
Clackamas got outstanding pitch
ing efforts from Shanks and Luke
Hol scher, but CCC lost both ends
of the doubleheader, 4-3 and 4-2.
“Shanks and Holscher pitched
great games. Aaron has been solid
all season, and he just gave an
other outstanding effort,” said
Robinson. “Luke had a rough start

to his season, but he has been
coming on real strong lately, and it
showed in his pitching on Satur
day.”
Matt Paulsen came up with some
clutch hitting in the first game, go
ing 3-4 at the plate and driving in
two runs to lead the Cougar effort.
Mt. Hood came up with two runs
in the bottom of the sixth, then sur
vived a CCC rally in the top of the
seventh to get the 4-3 win.
Mt. Hood jumped on Clackamas
early on in the second game, scor
ing twice in the bottom of the first
to take a quick lead, but CCC used
some timely hitting to get back into
the game. Clackamas ended up
with 12 hits in the second game,
unfortunately, the Cougars left too
many runners on base, and
Clackamas ended up losing game
two 4-2.
With the losses, Clackamas fell
into last place in the NWAACC’s
Southern Division with a record of
3-13 in the conference and 8-20
overall. Chemeketa leads the divi
sion, with Mt. Hood only one game
back.
Clackamas takes on Southwest
ern Oregon CC on Friday at 7 p.m.,
then comes back on Saturday
against SWOCC in a doubleheader
beginning at noon. Both gamps
are on the Cougar field.
