When the Indian Diaspora took place in the 1960’s, her family was expelled from Burma and began a new life in Bombay. From there, her father was sent to the United States to be educated. Her grandmother Motiba never left India. Bharti Kirchner is the author of two novels and four cookbooks of India cookery. Her articles have been published in magazines such as Food and Wine, Writer’s Digest and Fitness Plus. Her cookbooks include The Bold Vegetarian, The Healthy Cuisine of India, and In dia Inspired. Her third novel, Darjeeling, will be published in 2002. Sharmila’s Book, her last pub lished novel, is centered around artist Sharmila Sen’s search for a deeper connection with her Indian heritage.
