All proceeds will benefit the ASG and provide funds for a trip to Washington D.C. Come eat lunch and help school representa tives meet their goal! Poet Billy Collins will be read ing his work at Portland State Uni versity on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Cen ter, Browsing Lounge, room 238. Presented by the PSU Literary Arts Council, the event's admission is free. Call PSU's Literary Arts Council at 725-5666for more in formation. Candy Fundraiser Members of the ASG are sell ing a variety of candy for one dol lar apiece in order to benefit their trip to Washington D.C. Items are being sold around campus, and are available in the ASG office located in the Community Center. This will occurs throughout the term. An Evening with the Stars Classes to acquaint students with the stars and planets are being held in the Lakeside Educational Hall in Lake Oswego beginning Jan. 23 thru Feb. 20. Classes are offered one night only under specific top ics. The Jan. 23 class is titled “An Interview with the God of War: A Close Look at the planet Mars” and runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Two more classes are Feb. 6 and Feb. 20, titled “Dust Among the Stars: Comets, Meteors, and Craters,” and “Beyond your Eyes: Binocu lars and Telescopes for Viewing the Sky.” Contact the ELC at ext. 2351 for more information. Transfer Day 1999 From 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Mon day, Jan. 25, a forum will be held at the Gregory Forum to help stu dents in transferring to other col leges and universities across Or egon. Twenty-four colleges will be participating in the event, in cluding Oregon State University, Portland State University, Reed College, and University of Oregon. Writers' Club Contest The literary magazine Synesthia will be accepting submissions from Clackamas students until Wednes day, Feb 17. Students may submit up to three poems, one essay, and one piece of fiction. Four copies need to be submitted of each en try, and each entry must include the title and the student's social secu rity number. An IBM-compatible 3.5" disk with the work on it should also be included and turned in to Allen Widerburg. For more infor mation, contact Allen Widerburg at ext. 2359. $15 with a commemorative t-shirt. Checks can be made payable to Clackamas Community College. Girls' Softball Clinic On Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sun day, Jan 31, the seventh annual softball hitting clinic will be held forgirls ages 13-18. There is acost of $25, and the clinic runs in three hour blocks. Individual instruc tion will be offered in the funda mentals of bunting, slapping, and hitting. Now through March 10, a women's writers' interest group Chrysalis will meet from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in Barlow 114. Diane Averill, a poet and Clackamas English instructor, will lead women writers through dis cussions of their work. It is a free class, and can be registered as WKS 1-01.
