T he ClAckAMAS P rim Wednesday, October 21, J 998 ‘Sick and Twisted’ twisted and sick • This year's Festival of Animation drew an enthu siastic crowd. If you're looking for the sick and twisted scene, come on down. JEREMY STALLWOOD Feature Editor Hurry! Exclusive! There’s still time to see Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted ’98 Festival of Anima tion. But, be warned—Sick and Twisted lives up to its name. The “cartoons’1 ran in no par ticular order. A film that a child could watch, for instance, was screened next to one with pornographic material. They started us on a light note with “No Neck Joe,” a half dozen short skits on the misfortunes of a poor guy with no neck. Then came “Use In structions,” an artistic state ment on pollution where every thing in the cartoon was de picted with huge butts emitting “pollution.” There was humor in good taste, and there was humor in bad taste. In “Yes, Timmy, There is a Santa Claus,” little Timmy received a load of fine, sporty Christmas presents: a tri cycle, a soccer ball, a pogo stick. One slug asked if going out to sea was a good idea, “being that we are slugs and all.” The pirate cap tain slug laughed off this idea and in the next scene, when they are out at sea, we see a bunch of pale, white, dead slugs. One cartoon received a loud welcome from the audience. “Home, Honey, I’m High” was about exactly that. The father tokes up with his wife; the kids toke up at the dinner table. Dinner never tasted so good! “Smoking” was a misleading short. It depicted many people smoking, having a good time, dancing and laughing. Yet at the end, there was a public ser vice announcement stating that smoking was bad and de manded, “please stop.” In South Park’s “The Spirit of Christmas,” the two sides of Kenny, Stan and Kyle celebrate In "The Spirit of Christmas," by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Christmas battle it out, and Jesus says some very un-Chris- tian e things to Santa Claus while punching him out. The film “Ah L'amour,” tabled “WorldAnimation Celebration's World's Funniest Film,” lived up to its title. A poor man looking for love only finds disaster with each girl he talks to.
