8 Sports The Clackamas Print Wednesday, January 29,1997 Clackamas rolls as Nix sparks offense JohnThorbum Assistant Sports Editor The Clackamas Women’s Bas ketball Team is back to their win ning ways. After dropping their first two games of the regular season, the Cougars have Won four straight, highlighted by a tremendous win over formerly top-ranked Chemeketa Community College. In Clackamas’ past two games, the women have poured in a total of 187 points while only allowing their opponents to 95 total points. The Cougar rout began last Wednesday as Clackamas trav eled to Portland Community Col-' lege. Freshman Robbie Nix led all scorers with 28 points as the Cougars enjoyed a 45-18 half time lead. The Panthers, who have only six players on their squad, turned the ball over 38 times, leading tp- 43 Cougar points from turnovers. Four other players scored in double figures: Freshmen Michelle McKinney (14), Melissa Hollenbeck (13), and Sophomores Clair Cox (13) and Lisa Sorenson (10). The Cougars won the game 97-38. Clackamas continued to roll against Lane this past Saturday, winning at L,CC 90-57. The Cou gars were paced by Nix’s 26 points and Hollenbeck’s 22. Lisa Sorenson shot 50 percent (4-8) from beyond the three-poirit line S/def/nes The Clackamas Cheerleaders will hold a youth clinic in the Randall Gymnasium, Feb. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children will be divided by age and taught both a cheer and dance. Later that evening, the cheer clinic participants and; Cheerleaders will perform during half-time at the men’s basketball game against Lane at 8 p.m. Registration for the clinic be gins at 9:30 a.m. at the door: Brendon Neal Sports Editor The Cougars lost two close games last week falling to 3-3 this season. Clackamas started the week with a 103*97 loss to the Portland Panthers after scoring 67 points in the second half. The Cougars got 24 points off three-pointers, 8-23. - Five Clackamas players scored in double figures. Oscar Rodriguez had 12 points and fi ve assists. Antwain Williams, and Clint Hordemann both had 23 points to lead the team. Williams added 10 rebounds, including four on offense. The game went down to the wire, with Clackamas losing 103- 97 to Lane. The Cougars struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting 37’9-percentj but picked up the pace in the second. They finished 25-59,42.4 percent for the game. Leif Spencer led three Cougars in double figures with 19 points and six rebounds. Gabe Mccune and Hordemann added 15 and 10, respectively.
