Becoming the first team in the league to reach the 30-win mark on the season, the Hawks are look ing forward to the next couple of months. With post-sea son play just two months away, the Hawks are on a pace to have a less-goals- against average than any other team in the league. Along with this distinction, they currently have the league’s top scorer in c e n t e r T o d d Robinson and are set to have five representatives in the Ian. 22 All-Star Game in Spokane, Wa. Behind the solid play of goaltender Chris Wickenheiser, the dawks have posted a 20-3-2 record in their last 25 games, going un- )eaten in games played Nov. 16 to Dec. 2L With the talent level of this year’s team, the playoffs are ieing greatly anticipated by play as and fans alike. “We want the Memorial Cup,” Says Center Andrej Podkonicky. The Memorial Cup is the high est trophy for any junior hockey club in the U.S. and Canada. The Hawks will head into next weekend when they play the Kamloops Blazers on the road and the Kelowna Rockets at home, leading the second place Seattle Thunderbirds by nine points. With only 28 games left until the play offs, and seven of those games against their 1-5 ri val Thunderbirds, the next two months are sure to be very exciting for our Winterhawks. With all of the team’s success this season, atten dance is on the rise, and the Me morial Coliseum and Rose Garden are great places to catch all the action. One of the most exciting fan events of the season is coming up this Sunday, Jan. 19. The second annual “Skills Chal lenge” will be held in the Memo rial Coliseum at 1 p.m.. The event features player competitions such as fastest skater, hardest shot, shot accuracy and a goaltending shoot out. You can also try your luck and shoot on One of the Winterhawks goaltenders. Next home action is this Sat urday night, Jan. 18, against the Kelowna Rockets in the Memo rial Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. four of seven shooting, seven as sists and six steals. Jared Bullock averaged 10 points and eight rebounds, and Brian Hay leads the team with 7.5 assists a game.
