This special edition of The Clackamas Print is the first time in the paper’s history that it is being published during the first week of school. Because of thé many changes affecting students and staff, we felt it would be a handy guide. In the coming weeks, The Print plans to bring a variety of stories including news, features, arts and entertainment, sports, and information pertinent to your success at college. We are an excited and moti vated group of writers, photog raphers, cartoonists and editors. Under the guidance of otir advisor, Linda Vogt, who has chalked up ten years in the jour nalism department, we hope to exceed our wildest expectations. We wish everyone a great school year. The women have not put to gether a whole team together yet because of injuries and sickness. However, Head Coach Mike Hodges says the women should be able to compete as a team this Saturday at the Clackamas Com munity College Invitational. ITie men started the season by placing first in the Whitman Invitational with four runners placing in the top ten: Cocaptain Travis Armstrong, 5th place; Evan Goin, 7th place; Eric Eidsvic, 8th; and David Lemarr, 10th. Jennifer Rea placed 11th in the women’s competition and Mishe Simantel placed 43rd. The Clackamas Cougars placed third in the University of Portland Invitational on Sept. 14. Their wins included Oregon State and league rival Clark College. On Sept. 23 the men placed second behind George Fox at the Big Cross ’96 in Pascal, WA. Armstrong placed 3rd to lead the men whose rankings included: Eric Eidsvik, 8th place and Evan Goin, 16th. Rea placed 4th in the women’s competition and Kendal White placed 21st. Armstrong, a sophomore from Mossy Rock High School, was the lead runner for Clacka mas in the first half of the last sea son, but his season ended when he came down with mononucleo sis. He won the 1500-meter track championship last year and is an Honor Roll student. Goin is from Silverton and placed 14th in the NWAACC championships last year in cross country. Eidsvik is a freshman from Bellingham and was one of the top 20 in Washington last year. Lemarr is a freshman from Oregon City and went to state in bbth cross country and track. Cocaptain Mishe Simantel also comes from Oregon City and is an Honor Roll student. “She is probably the hardest worker we have. She gives 100%, both in practices and meets,” said Hodges. . Micah McCool, a freshman from Jefferson High School, went to state in both cross country and track. Jon Gotchall is from Gladstone and was in the top seven in the NWAACC tourna ment last year. Andy Bradley, freshman from Incline Village, Nevada, was the state champion in cross coun try and track. Bradley is on the injured list but may play this weekend. Josh Gullickson, a sopho more from Rogue River, was a member of his high school’s state championship team. Kevin Meek, also from Rogue River, placed 10th at state as a junior in high school. Meek was part of Rogue River’s state championship team last two years. Tony White, freshman from Franklin High School; and Josh Huffman, freshman from Tillamook, went to state in both cross country and track.
