According to Coach, Paul Fiskum, the Cougars hope to work in a couple of double headers this week. Cougars tear up the Chiefs, split with the Roadrunners Lora Wahrgren Sports Editor The Cougar baseball team made an impressive showing this past week, winning three out of four games. “We’re playing well, pitch ing well, and hitting well; I hope we keep this up,” stated Head Coach Robin Robinson. Saturday’s game against the Chemeketa Chiefs was rained out and rescheduled for Sunday. The Cougars won the first game 7-6 and the second game 9-1. In game one, the Chiefs were ahead 6-0. The score then became 6-4 with the bases loaded. Chris Engerman lead the Cougars off with a walk. Chemeketa brought in their best pitcher who hit two Cougar play ers. With the bases loaded, Ja son Gillespie stepped up to bat, hitting a ground ball. One run scored and the runners advanced around the bases. Jason Mann finished off the game by hitting in two runs for the win. The final score was 7-6, Clackamas. CCC had seven total hits with seven different batters getting a hit. Winning pitcher Ryan Moore’s record is now 6-2. In the second game, the Cou gars clobbered the Chiefs 9-1. The CCC players had the opportunity to hit against an ex-Cougar team mate, Jason Farmer. Cougar sophomore Chris Engerman had two RBI’s. Jeremy Hubbard was three for four, scor ing three RBI’s. “We’re starting to come to gether more as a team. My hit ting has picked up lately and I have more confidence,” said Hubbard. In the sixth inning Jer emy Hertner stepped up to the plate and smashed a home run. “I was struggling at the plate and the home run just capped off the day,” said Hertner. “It felt good to win; we needed them badly.” Tuesday’s game against Linn Benton Roadrunners went 11 in nings. Jason Mann went 4-4 with two walks, two doubles, and three RBI’s. Owen Carter pitched five in nings. The Cougars then brought in Donal McGavran as a relief pitcher. Ryan Moore (pitcher and out fielder) picked up the win to set his personal pitching record, 5-2. The final score was Cougars seven and the Roadrunners five. In the second game, the Cou gars were ahead 5-2 going into the last inning when the Roadrunners dashed ahead, leaving the final score nine to seven in favor of Linn Benton. The Cougars’ next game is at home tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Linfield College. 4-MAN CO-ED VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT Location: QxkmiNGimirityCiiq^ 1960OSLMdalaAv& Oft8mOb?OR97M5 The Clackamas Community College Coed Track & Field Team competed well at the University of Oregon (U of O) Invitational and the Mt. Hood Relays on Sat urday. The U of O Invitational was held at Hay ward Field in Eugene. The Mt. Hood Relays were held at Mt. Hood Community Col lege in Gresham. Clackamas sent two teams to both events. The U of O Invitational was split into two individual track meets, a daytime open meet and an invitational night meet. Several Cougar athletes got high marks in the U of O Invita tional. Jaime Fairchild ran the women’s 10,000 meter relay in 39 minutes, 44.30 seconds, third best in Clackamas history for that event. Cougar Ryan Buerke also had a high mark in the 10,000 meter relay, on the men’s side. Buerke set a personal best in the race with a time of 32:57.57. The mark beat Buerke’s previous per sonal best by over 40 seconds. “We certainly had good performances in the 10,000meter races and in the pole vaults at both meets,” said Clackamas Head Track Coach Mike Hodges. Also placing high in the U of O Invitational were Marla Crowe and Melissa Abramson. Crowe ran for a 59.30 (seconds) mark in the women’s 400 meter dash. Abramson placed fifth in the women’s 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 107.49. The time was a season’s best for Abramson. Three pole vaulters in the men’s competition also placed in the U of O Invitational for the Cougars. While Clackamas athletes were competing in the U of O In vitational, teammates were com peting at the Mt. Hood Relays in Gresham. Cougars Shawn Davis and Jim Miller finished first and second in the men’s hammer throw. Davis threw for a mark of 150 feet, 5 inches; Miller came up shorter at 150' 5". Misty Forgey placed sec ond in the women’s high jump with a mark of 5' 0" . Vasili Tsirimiagos tied a personal best in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 14' 0". The mark was good enough for Tsirimiagos to place third in the event. “Because we had sent some of our athletes to the Uof O Invitational, we didn’t have as good of a team as we could have af the Mt. Hood Relays,” said Hodges. “We used both meets to get good competition and record some good marks. “ At the relays, in women’s, shotput, the Cougars again had two athletes place. Kristi Cham berlain placed second with a. throw of 38' 1.5"; Erica Sloan placed third with a mark of 38' .74".' The Clackamas men’s 1600 meter relay team staged a per sonal victory in the Mt. Hood Re lays even though they only placed seventh. The team quali fied for the NWAACC (North Western Athletic Association of Community Colleges) Southern Region Championships to be held in May. Josh Klein placed fourth for the Cougars in the men’s triple jump with amark of 45' 11.5". Jim Hagemann and Scott Hein placed second and fourth in the men’s javelin throw with marks of 181' 11" and 177' 6" respectively. In the Mt. Hood Relays men’s team competition,' Clackamas tied Mt. Hood for fifth place with 52 points. Clark Com munity College finished first in the combined team score of the Mt Hood Relays. “We’ve got our work cut out for us. We will compete against Mt.Hood, Clark and Lane Community College in our next track meet; it’ll be a real battle, “ said Hodges.
