Feature The Clackamas Print Wednesday, November 29,1995 «¿z Replicants combine Student excells with hard work Tool and Failure Karin Redston Contributing Writer photo by Mitch Tobias Left to right: Greg Edwards, Paul D’Amour, Chris Pitman, Ken Andrews make up the Replicants. Jon Roberts Feature Editor Get ready because here come the Replicants, with their newest tape self titled and in stores now. The Replicants’ newest CD took shape over the last four years. The Replicants are a metamorphosis of members of Tool, Failure and the “iconic figments of a pop-culture un conscious.” The Replicants CD is made up of covers of other groups ranging from the “anglo-androgony” of David Bowie to the “American-man,” Neil Young. The group did a good job on Neil Young’s ‘‘Cinnamon Girl”, which was my favorite song. They also did a good cover of Paul McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs,” this was one of the better songs on the CD. The members of the Replicants were already famil iar with each other as LA acts as far back as early ’91. Tool and Failure laid the ground work for the Replicants over the course of Tool’s rise to Platinum success. After sharing a brief west coast tour in ’92, Tool invited Failure on their post Lollapalooza world tour sup porting Undertow. Now mem bers of both bands play to gether, combining their influ ences into an “eclectic” collec tion of covers. That is sure to please fans of both Tool and Failure. The Replicants CD came out on Nov. 21 and is in stores now. The CD is produced by Zoo Entertainment and is worth picking up. I was a little skeptical about this CD when it was given to me, because I had never heard of the Replicants. But I was surprised by how good it sounds and how smoothly their music flows through out the tape. The members of the Replicants meld together to make some really good songs. After the cer emony and back in a quiet room, she smiled as she looked at the piece of paper that said Phi Theta Kappa with her name on it. “It’s an honor,” she said. “It’s very exciting. “I feel accomplishments when I finish classes,” Voelker said, “but it wasn’t until Phi Theta Kappa that I felt accom plishments for my efforts as a whole.” Voelker was in the seventh grade when a fight broke out be tween two boys and a book was thrown. She was hit in the temple, dropping her to the ground. As a result, the next three to four weeks were spent in bed suffering nausea, dizziness and vertigo. The doctors were not sure what was causing the symptoms. They attributed her condition to a concussion. ./ The next year, Voelker joined the volleyball team.
