Feature The Clackamas Print Wednesday, November 8,1995 3 ‘Copycat’ Rueb becomes a full-time teacher at CCC intensely He feels fortunate to have the opportunity to be at Clackamas exciting Jon Roberts Feature Editor The newest thriller to hit the sil ver screen is Copycat. This is well crafted and well thought out. It’s not as dark as Seven but what it doesn’t have in darkness it makes up for in fast paced action. The main character of the movie is Dr.Helen Hudson, (Sigourney Weaver) who is known for studying the minds of serial killers. At one of her conferences she almost be comes the victim of a psycho killer played by Harry Connick, Jr. Afterwards, Hudson develops a serious case of agoraphobia, which means she is afraid of leaving her house. A few years later, a pair of detectives (Holly Hunter and Dermot Mulroney) are clueless about a serial killer, they ask Hudson for help. Hudson recognizes that the m u r d e r e ( W i 1 1 i a m MacNamara), is imitating the world’s most famous serial killers. The story goes on from here, with quite a few surpris ing twists throughout. This movie is on par with movies like Seven, The Si lence of the Lambs and Psycho. Copycat is not as unpredictable as Seven, but there are some parts of the movie that are very surprising. There is quite a bit of foreshad owing in this movie, that par tially give away the ending of the movie. This movie has great per formances by all the lead char acters, Weaver makes a great doctor and agoraphobic; Connick jr. makes a disturb ingly real psycho; Hunter makes a likable yet hard cop; Mulroney makes a great rookie cop, with his clean cut look and humor; MacNamara makes an awesome serial killer. Look for Weaver and MacNamara to get some rec ognition by a certain academy. This movie is rated R for violence, language, nudity, in tensity. It is 115 minutes long. It is directed by John Amiel who also directed The Sing ing Detective. This movie is definitely worth $6.25, and it should be seen in a theater, or you will probably lose the in tensity. Megan Friedow Staff Writer New full-time instructor Ri chard Rueb is familiar with Clackamas Community College’s good qualities. “Clackamas seems to be a more friendly and personal atmo sphere compared to the other places I have worked. Maybe it is because it is smaller and not as busy,” Rueb stated. Rueb may be a new face to some, but he has actually been ac customed to CCC for the past two years as a part-time biology in structor. This fall he became a permanent figure to the non ma jors biology sequence 101-103 as his first full time instructing po sition. Overall Rueb has around seven years teaching experience in the study of biology while be ing a teacher’s assistant as a graduate student and holding part-time positions at both Clackamas and Mt. Hood for the past few years. Rueb has always had a fond interest in biology, but especially recognized his desire to continue his studies while attending Rutgers University in New Jersey as a second year undergraduate student. In his attempt to further his education, he was employed with the State Environmental Agency in South Dakota for seven years. Rueb has had a back ground of biology related profes sions and interests. Rueb enjoys canoeing, climb ing, cross country and downhill skiing, yet his primary hobbies are trout and steel head fishing. “I may not be an expert, but I enjoy it,” Richard admitted. Rueb is not married and doesn’t have any children. In his new position, Rueb is concentrating on doing a good job and providing CCC with an ef fective biology curriculum. “I am interested in all of the biology courses, but will be even more excited when we reach the 103 sequence as we will focus on projects and building models which will hopefully catch the interest of other non biology stu dents and offer the opportunity of involvement.” “I am overall satisfied with the life science curriculum, and photo by PaulUlmen Richard Rueb is one of the many new teachers at CCC. can’t think of anything to change, although I would eventually like to teach a general ecology course, but time will tell,” Rueb added. “Even though I was only part time, I felt like I was part of a big family.” Richard commented that he was “impressed by the interaction between the students and faculty and admires the friendliness of the college and its surroundings.” Rueb feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be come a part of this college. “I am still learning the ropes, determin ing what works best for Clacka mas.” He is a very intelligent and inspirational addition to CCC.
