This movie was, in my opinion, one of the best non-ac- tion movies of all time. This movie is a true ro mance movie, about a down- and-out-girl, Lucy, played by Sandra Bullock. She has a crush on a guy who always comes by her work, but she is too shy to ever talk to him. Until one day he gets mugged and gets knocked into a coma and she rescues him. Then her problems start. She is mistakenly taken for his fiance, which she wouldn’t mind being. So naturally, she doesn’t speak up and say that she isn’t his fiancee. Naturally this type of half truth could pose serious problems, especially when he wakes up - if he wakes up. Then Lucy has the problem that the guy she has a crush on is already engaged. Then she starts to like an other family member and then the plot thickens as the movie goes along, but it only gets better as it goes along. I was really impressed by Bullock’s performance in this movie. I missed the bus with a bomb on it, but Bullock’s performance and the great plot made up for it. When I went to see this movie, I hadn’t heard anything about it, so I really didn’t know what to expect. There have been very few ads for this movie, so it’s not as well known as it should be. This is my prediction for the sleeper hit of thé year. This movie is the perfect date movie; it’s romantic, yet it will hold a guy’s attention for the whole movie. This movie gets all four stars, and it will not disappoint for a date movie. I would recommend going and seeing this movie. I don’t think you will be sorry you did. ‘Blown to Smithereens’ offers pleasant mix of rock, jazz, folk by Patrick Lundstrom Staff Writer The April 4 release, “Blown To Smithereens,” is a 16-track collection of the Smithereens’ progression from 1983 to 1994. It features the 1988 top 40 hits “A Girl Like You” and “Yesterday Girl,” as well as many other songs that cause me to wax reminiscent. It has a pleasant mixture of English and American pop mu sic, hailing from no particular era. Covering more than a decade of music-making (hardly a full sam pling of what the Smithereens have to offer), it is hard to pin down the precise era of music of the songs. There is a definite in fluence of 1960’s and 1970’s Brit ish invasion pop styling (espe cially in the earlier songs), but has dashes of early 1980’s pop-rock, and a smattering of folk, country and jazz sensibilities. This is not surprising, con sidering that they had their ori gins playing covers of other bands with an occasional original song thrown in. It was not until the original band members, Diken, Babjak and Mesaros, answered a want ad from Pat DiNiziro, that the Smithereens were formed. Under DiNiziro’s creative influ ence, the band blasted into star dom.
