Clackamas built its lead to 22 within the next minute before they finally went cold from the field. Portland scored ten consecutive, points before Matt Stahl drove to the basket for an easy hoop and a 72-58 lead with seven minutes remaining after a five-minute scoring lapse. The Cougars still led by nine after two Pearson free throws with two.minutes to go, until Portland’s Mitchell Jackson canned two three-pointers and Ricky Briggs added a short jumper to pull the Panthers within two at 82-80 with 1:15 to go. Stahl sank two free throws and a jump ball after a Portland miss gave the Cougars possession of the ball. Pearson then found Lassen under the basket to put Clackamas up 86-80 with 40 sec onds remaining. Briggs hit an open three and stole the inbounds pass and scored to leave the Cougars with only a one-point lead. Nate Williams and Moore calmly put in two free throws apiece in the last 30 seconds for the 90-85 win. Moore led Clackamas with 19 points and seven rebounds. Stahl had a monster game as he hit for 15 points and grabbed 16 boards. Lassen added 18 points and nine rebounds. After Lane CC totally con trolled the first game between the teams earlier in January in Eu gene, the Cougars definitely had to prove that they could play with the Titans when they hosted Lane on Saturday. Clackamas started in a slump early in the game when Lane took a 9-4 lead before Pearson hit a. three and Stahl added a lay-in to get the Cougars going. Clackamas held the Titans scoreless for nearly five minutes as they built a 19-11 margin. The home team took its big gest lead of the game at nine (26- 17) with 6:30 to go in the first half when Stahl rebounded a missed Cougar shot and scored. Lane climbed back into the game late in the half and trailed by just five (36-31) at the break. The second half of play proved to be a close scoring affair all the way through. After leading by five early in the second half, Clackamas fell behind by as many as seven when Lane made a run at the Cougars midway through the half. GIVE IT UP! The donation came from the Henry Lea Hillman, Jr. Founda tion, located in Pennsylvania. The foundation, which do nated another $10,000 last year, was the first foundation to give to the Resource center. The Hillman Foundation is the final donation used in the challenge pledge that was made by Ed Hunt and Bill Brod, who are both CCC Foundation Board members. The challenge pledge helped to complete funding for the Fam Clackamas trailed by five with four minutes remaining when the Cougars scored five in a row to tie the game at 65 after Moore sank two foul shots; Lane missed on its next pos session, and Moore then found Pearson on the wing for a three and a 68-65 lead. After Lane tied the game with a three by Bran don Ellis, Hadley added two free throws for a two-point advantage with 40 seconds remaining. Williams was called for a loose ball foul with seven seconds left. The Lane player sank the first free throw, but a lane violation by a Titans player gave the Cougars possession of the ball. Hadley added a pair of foul shots with three seconds left, and Williams sank another with less than one second remaining for the 73-69 victory. Moore believes that his team can pull through the last part of the season. ’We have to not let down in the second half,” Moore said. The Cougars hope to keep their short winning streak -alive with a home game against Mt. Hood tonight and a trip to Roseburg oh Saturday to face Umpqua CC. + American.
