NEWS/OPINION June 3,1992 THE CLACKAMAS PRINT Page 3 Anti-Semitic information distributed on campus Pamphlets ignorantly, cowardly promote racism, sexism by Daphne Hartt Staff Writer A few weeks ago, CCC Public Safety came upon an in teresting pamphlet that was being distributed among CCC students. This pamphlet,"Who Rules America?," is an Anti-Semitic news release which focuses on Jewish immigrants who are involved in mass media. According to Public Safety Supervisor Jim Wiseman, there are no known suspects. Also, the circulation of this pamphlet is not illegal. The National Alli ance (N.A.) of West Virginia is the white supremacist group who organized and fabricated it The fact is this group has the right to write and distribute this type of material. Unfortunately, the American Constitution gives groups like the National Alli ance, theKlu KluxKlan(KKK), and the White Aryan Resistance (WAR) the right to exercise their freedom of speech. However, this is the same amendment that gives me the right to express my opinion. In the area of television, the pamphlet emphasizes the rid iculousness of “Jews control ling the media and persuading a whole generation.” In one particular paragraph, entitled “Molding American Minds”, the N.A states that under Jewish media control people are led to believe that, ”a racially mixed couple will be liked, and socially sought after by other characters, as well a “take charge” Black scholar or busi nessman, a sensitive and tal ented homosexual, or a poor but honest and hardworking illegal alien from Mexico.” Basically, this organization is angry at the fact that most Ameri cans like diversity and are trying to put an end to racism and sex ism. The N.A. goes on to say, ”A White racist, that is, any racially conscious White person who looks askance at miscegenation or at the rapidly darkening situation in America, is portrayed, at best, as a despicable bigot who is reviled by other characters, or, at worst, as a dangerous psychopath who is fas cinated by firearms and is a men ace to all law-abiding citizens. The White racist ’gun nut,* in fact, has become a familiar stereotype on TV shows.” The N.A. also expresses con cern about our country’s best newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. They claim that since these media companies are owned and run by Jews, our country is missing out on the real news of the world. The articles state, ” They (Jewish de scendants) are the ones who de cide what is news and what isn’t, at the national and international levels. They originate the news;others merely copy it. And all three are in Jewish hands.” So what exactly is the news that N.A., WAR, the KKK and other racist groups want to hear? The previously mentioned news papers have been the most prestig ious in tile country for several years. If Americans thought these Jew- ish-run newspapers were not newsworthy and entertaining they obviously would not spend their money to purchase the material. So if White supremacists feel that the media is unsatisfactory, why is it that the Wall Street Journal sells 2.1 million copies each week day? And why are magazines such as Vogue, Gentleman’s Quar terly (GQ), the New Yorker and House and Garden are some of the best selling on the market? These are all owned by Jews. Another excerpt from the pamphlet displays the ignorance involved in this whole issue. "The Jew-controlled entertainment media have taken the lead in persuading a whole generation that homosexuality is a normal and acceptable way of life; that there is nothing at all wrong with White women dating or marry ing Black men, or with White men marrying Asiatic women; that all races are inherently equal in ability and character, except that the character of the White race is suspect because of a his tory of oppressing other races; and that any effort by Whites at racial self-preservation is repre hensible,” states the N.A.. First of all, if you traced everyone’s bloodline all the way back to their great ancestors, there is hardly a chance that every rela tive was purely White Anglo- Saxon. We all came from the same place atone time in history. How did so many races evolve? Did they just pop onto this earth one day long ago? I don’t think so. ' In order to have the variety of cultures that we have today, somewhere along the line differ ent races interacted. Second of all, what is the rationalization of wanting to eliminate a particular race just because they have dif ferent characteristics such as skin Letter to the Editor Reader angered by flaw in CCC graduation system To the Editor: I am writing in regards to a system that I have been trying to refute since I recieved my grade report from Winter Term. I am graduating this turn and now enthusiastically pre pare to begin further studies at PSU. Graduation ceremonies are this GPA accumulated as of the term proceeding that in which they will graduate. So, we who are gradu ating this Spring Term must have accumulated this average by the end of Winter Term. Excuse me! I think that since it took me through Spring Term to earn the If the problem is not rectified by June 12, and if I have earned an accumulative GPA of 3.5 with this term's grades, I will wear my honor cords from high school through this year's ceremonies because I will have earned the privilege to do so. an important part of a college student’s accomplishments. The ceremonies offer a unique op portunity for those who are gradu ating to celebrate their achieve ments. However, there is a flaw in the system at CCC. For graduates, to be recog nized as honor students, those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 earn the privilege of wearing gold honor cords through the ceremonies. So far so good. The problem lies in the fact that those students must have correct number of credits to fulfill my transfer degree, therefore, these grades must also be included in the calculations of my GPA. If I had accumulated the correct number of credits to graduate Winter Term, then it would make sense to use Winter Term’s GPA. The way it stands now, I, as well as many other deserving students, will not be entitled to the much de served privilege of wearing an honor cord during graduation to show my academic performance through out my college career. I understand the cumbersome job that must be done by the administration to determine each of those students who should be entitled to wear cords at the last moment. However, may I also take into consideration those students who foul up during Spring Term knowing that, no matter what, they will still be able to wear cords so long as they made the average after Winter term. These students will not be de serving of honor cords, yet they will be allowed to show false achievement If it is necessary, grades for graduating students can be or dered in earlier th an those of other attending students. This will al low more time for the admini stration to deterimine who cor rectly deserves the privilege of hanging honor cords around then- shoulders during the graduation ceremonies. If the problem is not rectified by June 12, and if I have earned an accumulative GPA of 3.5 with this term’s grades, I will wear my honor cords from high school through this year’s cere monies because I will have earned the privilege to do so. Sincerely, Brenda Hodgen color, facial features and lan guages? Without cultural diver sity, our country would not be as successful as it is today. The N.A. seems to want one people, one belief, one religion...one everything. In the paragraph entitled, “Our Re sponsibility,” they go on to say, "Once we have absorbed and understood the fact of Jewish media control, it is our inescap able responsibility to do what ever is necessary to break the control. We must shrink from nothing in combatting this evil power which has fastened its deadly grip on our people and is injecting its lethal poison into their minds and souls.” Whoever is placing the pam phlets on tables around the school and sticking them on the wind shields of students’ cars is cow ardly expressing their beliefs by trying to get students to change their views. I am not saying that CCC does not have racists, be cause I would be lying or pretend ing the problem does not exist. However, if the person or persons that have been distributing the material had any courage, they would organize some kind of rally to stand up for their rights. In stead, the distributors try to force their beliefs on others and then walk around campus inconspicu ously.
