Page 4 THE CLACKAMAS PRINT SPORTS February 13,1991 Cougar courtmen take two losses in stride by Frank Jordan Staff Writer The Clackamas men’s basket ball team found the going pretty tough last week, dropping two league games by close margins. Last Wednesday, the Cougars ventured into the unfriendly con fines of Mt. Hood Community College, and lost to MHCCby the score of 76-72. The game was close throughout, where the big gest lead for each team was six points. But good shooting in the end proved to be the difference in the ball game. CCC had all five starters score in double figures, led by the 27 points of Glen Kiser, on 11-12 shooting from the floor, and he also led Cougar rebounders with 10. Neil Delplanche followed with 13 points, David Daniels had 11 points and 8 assists, Dan Bartel had 11 points, and David Hollingsworth had 10 points. On Saturday, the Cougars lost a heart-breaker to Umpqua Com munity .College by the score of 73- 71. Clackamas lost the game in the second half, after taking a 39- 32 lead into the locker room at halftime. Umpqua used timely shooting down the stretch to help itself to the road win. The Cougars again put five players into double figures, led this time by David Hollingsworth, who had 18 points and 9 rebounds from his post position. Glen Kiser had 15 points and 9 rebounds, David Daniels survived a rough shooting night to add 14 points, Neil Delplanche hit four 3-point- ers on his way to 12 points and added 5 assists, and Dan Bartel had 10 points. The Cougars shot a dismal 41 percent from the field, on 24of 59, while Umpqua hit on 28 of 57 for 49 percent. Clackamas out-re bounded UCC by a 34-29margin. CCC will go on the road Wednesday to meet Chemeketa Community College in Salem, then come home on Saturday to face Southwestern Oregon Community College. Randy. Wednesday, the Cougars lost to Mt Hood 73-76. Although the team played fairly well, according to Garver, the game got off to a rough start and never got any bet ter. “We played fairly good bas ketball, but there were too many mental errors and too many turn- overs,” Garver explained. “Our bench performed really well for us against Mt. Hood, and we were together as a team. We just didn’t stay in through the entire game.” Z MIKE'S DRIVE-IN RESTAURANTS 3045 S.E. Harriso.i Milwaukie 654-0131 1707 S.E. We all love you! i Freshmen Launa Meek and Jenny Spilseth put in some high numbers, scoring 20 and 17 con secutively, followed by Wendy Smith and Kristin Lyons who each added 11 points to the Cougar scoreboard. “It’s just too bad that we lost to them. It would have been nice to have beaten them again, then we would be one up on them and they would be the ones struggling for the fourth spot,” continued Garver. “Now, they only have Portland and Lane left to play, which isn’t good because PCC is a sure win, and we have Cheme keta, who is ranked first” Saturday also turned out to be an upsetting defeat against Umpqua Community College. Meek led the team again, though, finishing with 32 points on the board. “Launa had a good game both nights and the girls played well against Umpqua; they just out played us,” expressed Garver. “We shot very good from the field hit ting around 51 percent We just need to be able to stay in the game for the full 40 minutes of play.” Looking at the play-offs, Garver said, “We’ll just have to play it by ear. A lot of it depends on what Mt. Hood does in the next two games.” àfî I AUTO ELECTRIC SERVICE & SUPPLY, INC.I Engine Performance Analysis $29.00 VALUE LMOndhrCuriOiMr 656-3633 1-800-448-6170 SOB S.
