And, I plan on making lots of money." by Brenda Hodgen Sports Writer After the loss of two key play ers due to injuries last week, the Cougar Women’s Basketball team had a rough weekend at the Green River Tournament. Sophomore Meredith Murphy tore ligaments and tendons in her knee and will beout the rest of the season, and Freshman Jenny Spilseth suffered an injury to her ankle. She is expected to be back into action by late December. The team traveled to Auburn over the weekend where they matched-up against Clark Com munity College Friday and Ed monds Community College Sat urday. Clark took a 32 point victory over the Cougars with a final score of 53-85. Although the Cougars out rebounded Clark 56-48, ac cording to Coach Phil Garver “We just couldn’t get the ball in the hoop.” Freshman Kathryn Muck hit 6 of her 12 attempts to come through with 12 points for the Cougars, and Sophomore Stacey Wallace put in4of her 8and came clean at the free-throw line drop ping 2 of 2, finishing the game with 10 points of her own. “We were really desperate for scoring. We had a lot of freshmen on the court, and we just lacked the mental part of basketball,’* continued Garver. » Although it too was a loss, Saturday’s game against Edmonds was a somewhat different tale with a final score of 73-76. The Cou gars once again led in rebounding and came through with a higher number of 2-point field goals. The Cougars were simply out done in free-throws and 3-point shots. “We controlled that whole game until the end. We had a four point lead in the fourth quarter, but Stacey Wallace fouled out with one minute to go, and we ended up losing by three points,” ex plained Garver. The team will travel to Cen tralia Friday and Garver said, “We just need to get ready to come back for the next game.” High School: Newberg How did you become interested in basketball?”! don’t know, I just signed up for it in junior high because it was an athletic, and I enjoy athletics.” What are your future plans?”I I always have a smile.” What types of activities do you enjoy in your spare time?”Horseback riding, and spending time with my family. Also, I’m doing track here this year. The high jump." What are your feelings aboutthe team so far this year?”I think were going to do good. We’re quick, and I just think we can do good. We just need to get more intensity.” What do you want for Christmas?”A Toyota 4x4."
