FEATURE Where's the 'Hearts' plot? Once in a while a movie will family’s Manhattan brownstone come along with a certain twist and into the run-down Bronx slum. that saves its boring, predictable Despite his wife’s (Joanna Cas plot: a twist presented by a certain sidy) weak, neurotic protests to character, a certain location, or in boot them out, he keeps his word the case of Where The Heart Is, a (and the door shut.) A Reel View In short, it’s illusion. by It is unfortunate that the basic plot didn’t have an illusion of Roseann Wentworth excitement, or provide the audi ence with something new. When they realize that $2250 is not nearly enough, they each recruit one friend to move in with them to help pay rent. Crispin Glover, who is best known as the eldest McFly in Back to the Fu ture, plays Chloe’s friend and a young fashion designer who is labeled as an “original.” Christo pher Plummer has the best role as the skid-row magician taken in by Thurman. Cassidy adds some flavor to this eclectic cast of characters as the uptight, right-winged mother who becomes comically hysteri cal; unfortunately, this doesn’t occur until the film is almost over. Although the ending is far too sappy and the parents’ suffer ing (as well as the children’s) doesn’t last as long as it should for the incredible changes that hap pen, unbelievably, overnight. If not for the visual effects of the outstanding artwork, or the continual but subtle upbeat tempo of the soundtrack, Where The Heart Is would be less than zero. The name of this Boorman flick should be “Where The Art Is.” February 28,1990 ELC holds auction by Lane Scheideman Staff Writer “Next up for auction is this lovely Swedish commode, not only is it elegant, but it’s useful too.
