NEWS THE CLACKAMAS PRINT October 4,1989 Page 2 ASG officers look forward to student involvement by Angela Wilson Feature Editor, and Margy Lynch Staff Writer The newly elected ASG offi cers are looking forward to a good year promoting student involve ment and other activities at Clacka mas. There is an overall feeling with all the officers that the student government needs improvement and that is one of the reasons they got involved. ASG President Garett Lytle has “high expectations” for the year. Lytle got involved with stu dent government after he was president of the Drama Club. “I liked being involved and wanted to continue my involve ment,” Lytle said. “There has been a big improvement with student government this year. “I want the student body to see this improvement, know the officers, and see that we do work hard,” continued Lytle. Visibility and approachabil ity is important to the officers. They want the students to see them while they work and be visible on campus. They want to make sure students see that they aren’t “stuffy” or to think that they “don’t under stand (student) things.” Entertainment on campus is one of the areas where improve ment will be seen. Entertainment Coordinator Scot Camberon is planning a different sort of enter- tainment for each week. Some of the activities being planned are family night movies, live music in the Community Center during the day, and dances. “I don’t just want people to be entertained this year, but I want the entertainment to be mind expanding so that viewers and participants will get more out of it,” Camberon said. There are student surveys at the Student Activities Office that the ASG would like the students to fill out so they can find out what the students would like to see at the college. ASG also has sugges tion boxes around campus. Vice President Tim Jones, would like to make ASG a “stronger organization” and would like the students to see this. Jones also plans to keep himself and the group" busy. “I also want to keep the budget up to date and help support stu dent involvement,” said Jones. Dave Nelson, administrative assistant, would like to see more students involved in the school, and loose their “apathetic atti tudes” towards Clackamas. “This is college and we need to enjoy itwhile we are here,” said Nelson. Assistant to the President, Ken Ingram, like the other offi cers is working to raise the image of Student Government. “One of the most important ways to do so is to make it visible to the students,” Ingram said. Interviews’for ASG senators are taking place this week. After all the senators are chosen every thing will get under way for ASG. Committees for students will be formed, a smoking forum will be organized, and a committee for blood drives will be formed. An evening student reception will be on the fourth and fifth of this month. This will be an opportu nity for students taking night classes to get to know the ASG officers. All of the officers “would like to keep it fun this year.” Lytle laughs, “After all, this isn’t rocket science.” Photo by Jillian Porter 1989-90 ASG Executive Council (l-r): Ken Ingram, assistant to the president; Garrett Lytle, ASG president; Dave Nelson, administrative assistant; Scot Cambron, entertainment coordinator; and Tim Jones, ASG vice president.
