Softball team still in 1 st place by Staci Beard Staff Writer The women’s softball team embarked on a six game road trip which saw them drop two games. The Cougars split a double header at South Puget Sound. A solid 8-0 win was achieved with help from another solid pitch ing performance by Yvonne Johnson. The next game saw a drop off of production on the offensive side. “We were really undisciplined and went after some high pitches. About ten of our outs were pop ups,” stated Coach Paul Fiskum. Missed scoring opportunities also hurt the Cougar cause. In the fifth inning with bases loaded and no outs the team was unable to score any runs. The time of 5:01.2 and 2:34 were the times she used to rank third in Saturday’s meet. In the discus, Jennifer Chan dler finished second with a throw of 110’6", while Heather McEl- heny fished first in the3000 meter with the time of 11:37.3. Tina Neiman took first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.3 for the Cougars. She also took fourth in the lOQmeter dash with a time of 13 seconds flat. Chris Nylen finished third in the Javelin with a toss of 129’01", and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 36’11". Both the men and women will have non-league meets until the state championships May 26 and 27. The meet will be held at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
