Likens included each member of the
team in this poem and attempted to portray
some of the originality and diverse person­
alities of the women competitors. The theme
of the poem is fun, however, which is what
Tammy Likens
. . .enjoys writing poetry and running track
this track season has been for most of the
girls in Likens' view.
Likens has been writing verse for years,
but hasn't ever taken much interest in being
published. "I just do it for fun or for
friends," she said. Track has been one of her
main interests since she began running as a
freshman at Marshall High School. "I tried
to combine two things that I really liked in
this poem," Likens said, "Besides it was for
the track team and they all seem to like
it."
