New typewriter
A memory typewriter has been purchased
from IBM in Portland for the advanced
typing class (SS 124), according to Sharon
Cooper, business instructor.
The typewriter costs a little over $5,000
and stores information for later use.
As an individual types, the material that
appears on the paper goes into the type
writer's memory. This process enables one
to have the material for later use if another
original is needed or if there are changes to
be made.
Cooper said training time on this type
of machine takes 25 hours, according to
IBM.
Cooper said these typewriters are used at
Eastern Airlines in baggage claims and in
many legal offices.
Class requirements for Advanced Typing
are a typing speed of 60 words per minute
and a good English background. The memory
typewriter may be used as part of that class
or on an audit basis.
