[opinion FRANKLY SPEAKING WELL, AÎOM- |T'S A WEffl COURSE IN W/MTÈo 1 Stop, thief! ßlOLOGX 4 n D IME EFF&lJ OF ALCOHOL ON TME 1 To the Editor: Welcome to CCC 1977. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and lasted through New Year's Eve. I'm sorry to ask, but why would anyone want to steal 11 foos balls and one cue ball out of the game room? I came up with no logical reason for stealing 11 dirty, old foos balls. This happened a week or two ago and then somebody else stole a cue ball a week ago. Why? Apparently nobody told these children that everything that is ripped off, broken or misused in the game room is paid for by all. It's too bad these thieves don't realize that the movies, coffee houses and video tapes, just to name a few, are all partially funded because of the game room. Next time you see the rip-offs at work, at least tell them who they are hurting: me and you. To live outside the law one must first be honest. Have a nice day. We have ex perienced great frustration in dealing with agencies and support services whose purpose is to help low income people. We are looking for other people who are feeling this frustration and are willing to work to make some changes. We have gathered some information about a group of low in come people in Roseburg who set up and control their own program of support services. We are hopeful that people in Clackamas Coun ty would be able to develop a similar program. We have met with representatives from Head Start, CC Community Action, Welfare, WIN, Clackamas Community College, etc. We have also met with other low income people who are interested in the program. The agencies are willing to work with us as resources to create our pro gram, but we must be the ones to design, develop and control what we want. After our visit to Roseburg Friday we will need to identify low income people in this community who are willing to put time and energy into the creation of a program whose purpose will be to serve themselves and other low-income people. We have a house located behind Smuckers that has been accepted from the college to be used for Project Independence. We will hold an open meeting for all interested people at our house if we have it ready. Otherwise we will meet on campus.
