Rilatos mans Indian program Richard Rilatos is the Clackamas Com munity College Indian Counselor - and a devoted one at that. Rilatos, a Siletz Indian, was formerly a CCC student and the Indian Outreach Co ordinator on campus. When funding from the Siletz Confederated Tribes ran out for his position as coordinator, Rilatos tried to continue work on his own. His job involved finding and identifying Indian families in the community and taking care of their health, educational, and welfare needs. Rilatos later applied for a position offered by the Native American Rehabilitation Asso ciation (NARA), a program which began in April 1970. NARA, started by a group of Indian al- Page 8 coholics concerned for their alcoholic bro thers and sisters relied entirely upon church and voluntary contributions until June 1971 when the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NlAAA) awarded an initial grant. Rilatos was hired by NARA for the posi tion of Indian Counselor and is now working at CCC finding Indian families in the com munity and helping them with drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Rilatos works for NARA rehabilitating Indians who are alcoholics and has devoted his spare time to working with Indian chil dren. His main concern is to dedicate his time and efforts to help his brothers and sisters wherever help is needed. "Reefer Madness." KGON 92<S Mic Movie. The Movie House, 1220 S.W. T< Portland. Midnight.
