Sports Cougars capture sixth, seventh straight wins by Christopher Curran Sports Editor The Clackamas men’s basket ball team will host Portland Community College tonight at 8 p.m. in Randall Hall. The Pan thers’ feature forward is Jeff Whipps of Lake Oswego. The Cougars had three players score 20 points each when they ran past Linn-Benton Community College on Feb. 7 in Albany. Post Russell Livingston and guards Terry Newton and Jeff Stein combined for 60 points (20 a piece) as the Cougars top ped the Roadrunners 88-81. The trio shot a combined 70 percent from the field on 26 of 37. Cougar wing Pete Newlin ad ded 12 points and freshman post Eric Christen, eight as Clackamas improved their record to 21-5. In addition to his 20 points, Newton had a game high of nine assists and a team high six rebounds. Leading the way for the Roadrunners was 6’5” forward Scott Montgomery, who had 25 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Jeff Vinson added 24 points and five assists. Clackamas shot 38 of 60 from the field (63 percent) and 11 of 15 from the free throw line (72 percent). Linn-Benton shot 32 of 57 for 56 percent from the field and 13 of 19 from the free throw line for 68 percent. The Cougars outscored the Roadrunners 46-44 in the first half and 42-37 in the second to hold on to the victory. Saturday’s game was the se cond time Clackamas and Linn- Benton have played this season. On Jan. 17 the Cougars crushed Linn-Benton in front of te home crowd in Randall Hall by a score of 91-68.
