Do you like to des cend from high places at variable rates of speed while in the snow and wearing skis? If you answer to any or all of these questions is yes, you must be aching to join the Clackamas Community College ski club. The ski club is open to everyone. What... you say you’re only a beginner or, even '.verse, have never skied? This is no problem, ski lessons and ren iais are available at very affor dable discount rates. The ski club is open to all members of the community. Costing only $5 to join ■ the benefits from this club will multiply your initial investment. Once a member, you will be eligible for group discounts on scheduled trips plus discounts on ski equipment and clothing. A membership newsletter will keep you informed about up coming meetings, cross country and downhill ski movies, and the scheduling of ski trips,. But a won’t get the letter un’css «.wi, join. The first trip is scheduled for December 3. This will be a night skiing excursion from 4-10 ’ p.m. at Mt. Hood Meadows. A second, all-day trip is planned for December 13. If interested, there will be an informational meeting on November 6. Sign-up for the club ’ began on October 6, so don’t delay. Sign-up sheets are available at the activities office. Now let’s hear your excuse. The Clackamas Community women’s running team came in second at this weekend’s Clackamas Invitational. The meet, which hosted six teams, was held at McIver Park. Michelle Mickel and Jean Barnett both finished in the top ten. Mickel landed a fifth place with a time of, 19:51, while Bajnett followed up with eighth place in 20:03. When asked about the race, Coach Mike Hodges said, “We’re still running without a couple of our better runners, but we are continuing to improve.” Hodges seemed confident in the women’s ability to uphold this statement. The Clackamas Community men’s team did a little better than the women. Of the six teams entered at the meet, Clackamas men came in first. For the second week in a row, Clackamas out ran the rivals from Lane Community. This week Clackamas finished with a perfect score by filling all of the first five places. Mike Smith came in first place by over a minute with a time of 25:10. He was followed by se cond place Greg Suiter, 26:18; third place Scott Sheldon, 26:42; fourth place Dan Muse, 26:43; and fifth place Mike Noel, 27:10. Also finishing in the top ten was Jerry Durant, with a mnth place time of 27:33. Mike Hodges commented on the men saying, “It was really ex citing to see us getting the first fiveplaces in a row.” This Saturday, both teams will travel to Seattle, Wash, to com- Sete.
