Woods pointed out that this
put the Cougars at a disadvan

competed in a league this
season.
“We went up there virtually
an unknown,” Coach Woods
said, adding,“But we went
away gaining respect because
we were competitive, I felt, in
all positions.”
In the singles competition,
the Cougar’s number-one
man, Renato Iwersen, advanc

Clackamas. After losing his
first match of the tournament,
Iwersen went on to the semi
finals of the consolation
bracket, where he suffered his
second defeat.
Steve Lewis was the only
Clackamas singles player to
win his first match of the tour

first match, however, Lewis
lost the next two, eliminating
him from the tournament.
In the doubles competition,

adding that the team “hung in

finals of the consolation
bracket in their divisions.
Osborne started out the tour
nament well, beating her first
two opponents. She then ran
into some trouble, however,
losing her next two matches.
Osborne finished the season
with the best singles record of
the team with 10-6.
Stafford started out with a
loss in the first round, but
came back with a string of
three straight wins in the con
solation bracket before losing
again in the semi-final round.
Stafford ends the season with
a record of 8-7.
Anjanette Robbins also
went as far as the semi-final
round of the consolation
bracket
before
being
eliminated from competition.
The number-three doubles
team of Robbins and Les
Kingsbury, lost their first
match, but then had a string of
wins that took them to the
final match for the consola
tion spot against Bellevue,
where they were defeated.
“It’s the best I’ve seen those
two play together before,”
Coach Nancy Mikleton said.
Coach Mikleton described
this year’s Cougars as the
“gray hair team” because of
the many close matches they
had throughout the season.
