The Clackamas Community
College volleyball team finish
ed regular season play in se
cond place. The Cougar net
ters will now advance to the
regional playoff, which will in
clude eleven other northwest
teams, and will be played at
Mt. Hood Community College
on Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1.
The deciding factor which
placed Clackamas second in
league was their match against
South Western Oregon Com
munity College (SWOCC) at
Coos Bay, last Saturday. It
took the‘Cougars the full five
games to defeat the SWOCC
team in what coach Kathie
Woods described at “a hard
fought game.” The win
boosted the team’s record to
six wins, four losses in league
action. The Cougars’ win
Saturday lifted them into a tie
with Lane Community Col
lege, but since Clackamas had
beaten the Lane team twice
during the season, they con
ceded to Clackamas. Lane
Community College will now
go on to play SWOCC for the
third place ranking.
In the game against
SWOCC, Cougar better Car
rie Moore had 19 kills and was
60 for 65 in hitting. Bev
Loverin had 14 kills and 4
stuff blocks. Jenny Holzemer
added to the team effort with
30 assists and was 21 for 21 in
serving with four service aces.
The team had a total of 56
kills in the match, “which is
fairly high,” Coach Woods
said. The Cougars were also 98
percent in serving, getting 114
out of 116 serves over the net.
The team had 50 assists and
was 82 percent in attacking
during the match. Service
receiving was 72 percent and
has “gone up dramatically
since the beginning of the
season,” Woods said.
The scores of the five games
in the match were 15-3, 4-15,
15-12, 8-15 and 15-12. The
Cougar volleyball team is
looking forward to doing well
at the upcoming regional mat
ches.
