Sports Cougar netters take second in league play By Rodney Fobert Of The Print The Clackamas Community College volleyball team finish­ ed regular season play in se­ cond place. The Cougar net­ ters will now advance to the regional playoff, which will in­ clude eleven other northwest teams, and will be played at Mt. Hood Community College on Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1. The deciding factor which placed Clackamas second in league was their match against South Western Oregon Com­ munity College (SWOCC) at Coos Bay, last Saturday. It took the‘Cougars the full five games to defeat the SWOCC team in what coach Kathie Woods described at “a hard fought game.” The win boosted the team’s record to six wins, four losses in league action. The Cougars’ win Saturday lifted them into a tie with Lane Community Col­ lege, but since Clackamas had beaten the Lane team twice during the season, they con­ ceded to Clackamas. Lane Community College will now go on to play SWOCC for the third place ranking. In the game against SWOCC, Cougar better Car­ rie Moore had 19 kills and was 60 for 65 in hitting. Bev Loverin had 14 kills and 4 stuff blocks. Jenny Holzemer added to the team effort with 30 assists and was 21 for 21 in serving with four service aces. The team had a total of 56 kills in the match, “which is fairly high,” Coach Woods said. The Cougars were also 98 percent in serving, getting 114 out of 116 serves over the net. The team had 50 assists and was 82 percent in attacking during the match. Service receiving was 72 percent and has “gone up dramatically since the beginning of the season,” Woods said. The scores of the five games in the match were 15-3, 4-15, 15-12, 8-15 and 15-12.
