Sports Lack Of Players Cause Clackamas Forfiet By Christine Warner Of The Print The Clackamas Community College soccer team forfieted their game against Skagit Valley Saturday because of a lack of players. One player did not play due to a family tragedy, another was involved in a car accident, and still more were excused to go hunting. The team was ready to go to Skagit Valley early Saturday morning when Mike Fit zgerald’s father arrived and explained that Mike had been in a car accident, and could not play. Without the required number of players, the trip was called off. Clackamas lost in a match last Wednesday against Columbia 3-2. Columbia scored all their goals in onê- on-one confrontation against Cougar goalie Mike Fit zgerald. “We played one of the better games of our season, but there were some mental mistakes that blew it for us,” Fitzgerald said. Clackamas plays Ft. Steilacoom Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. In another home game on Saturday, the team plays Tacoma at 1 p.m. COUGAR SOCCOR PLAYER Mike Rhodes Cougar netters win 1, lose 1 Last Friday, the College volleyball team lost to Mt. Hood Community College in their second meeting with the undefeated Mt. Hood team. However, on» Saturday the Cougars came back with a vic tory against Chemeketa Com munity College. The Cougars had a Slow start but came back in the last two games of the match. It took Mt. Hood four games to defeat the Cougars in the best three out of five match. The scores were 7-15, 6-15, 15-8, and 15-17. Coach Kathy Woods said her team had the potential to win against Mt. Hood, if they had gotten off to a better start. In their game against Chemeketa, the Cougars were this time victorious. Coach Woods said she became “very frustrated” when the Cougars lost the first two games. But Woods’ fears were soon put to rest when the Clackamas team came back to win the next three games. Leading the attack in the match was Carrie Moore with 10 kills and 20 assists. Serve reception improved 68 percent from the Mt. Hood match, ac cording to Coach Woods. The defensive plays of Kelly Burrows, along with the plays by Kerry Coe and Jenny Holzemer helped the Cougars win against Chemeketa.
