sports Women's tennis team dominates regionals By Tracy Sumner Of The Print Women’s tennis Coach Gladys Michael said last week that her team would have to be considered the favorite going into .last weekend’s Oregon Community College Athletic Association Region 18 Tourna ment. Michael’s predictions came to pass as the women came away with a first place finish in the tournament held at Lane CC in Eugene. Clackamas finished the meet having won 17 matches followed by North Idaho with seven, Blue Mountain with six, Treasure Valley with four, and Chemeketa and Mt. Hood with three each. Umpqua also par ticipated, but was unable to win a match. Mountain 6-1, 6-1; and Vicky Brown of North Idaho 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 for the third spot win. The run is in coordination with Harry’s Depression Days 25* soup line -and 5* refreshments. “The Depression Days committee is having as a public awareness meeting to “Start a depression,” Rod Harris, chairperson of the run and soup line, said. “We’ve invited around 200 politicians from the local, county, state and federal government to work in our soup line and serve the people.” Around 500 .people are expected to take part in the run and 5000 to take part in the soup line. The two mile run will be flat and fast and the 10 kilometer will be a scenic course with lots of hills. Awards will be given to each top age division winners. Awards include a Harry’s Mustache T-shirt and draw ings tor selected gift certificates. The divisions for both male and female aré, 13-under, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over. The day of the soup line and race will be Saturday, May 15. Registration will take place at 8 a.m. at the Harry’s Mustache on tcp of the hill. The two-mile run will begin at 9 a.m. and the 10 kilometer will begin at 9:30 a.m. Entry forms are available at Harry’s.
