Women’s track First league meet starts season on positive note By Rick Obritschkewitsch Of The Pri nt The College women’s ____ team ____ started __________ __ track league ac- tion last Saturday, with a first place team victory, and a na tional qualifying distance for Cyd McCormick in the javelin toss. By the end of the day the Cougar women had compiled Soccer, softball clinics set A clinic for coaches of youth or adult soccer teams will be offered at the college this spring. The 8-week clinic will begin April 8. The clinic will be held Thursday nights in Randall Hall, room 12 and will be taught by College coach Janos Szanto. Szanto has compiled an excellent 39-1-1 record in two years at Clackamas. For women interested in learning the fundamentals of slow-pitch softball, a clinic will also be offered. The clinic is designed for beginning and intermediate skill levels and will be con ducted by college coaches Nancy Mikleton and Loren Swivel. Sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays, April 21 and 28, from 6-8 p.m.; and Sun days, April 25 and May 2, from 2-4 p.m. There is a l$10 registration fee. 117 points to finish ahead of North Idaho with 99, Treasure Valley Community College with 72, Whitman with 71, Eastern Oregon State College with-60,^Blue Mountain^Com munity College with 15, and South Western Oregon Com munity College with 8 points. “I figured we would win the meet, hut I just did riot know by how much,” Coach Marilyn Synia said, “It was our first league meet, so I had no idea how well we would do as far as distances and times go.” -Javelin thrower Cyd Mc Cormick tossed her spear 128’4” to qualify for national competition. Now is the time for students to sign up for this year’s Round Robin Tourney in intramural co-ed softball. Requirements for the an nual tourney are simple to meet: each team must have five men and five women to compete. Teams must be sign ed up by April 15, and games will begin on April 20. Each year about, eight teams participate in the games, which are held from noon-1 * p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Loren Swivel, coordinator of the tourney is optimistic about the turn-out of teams. Swivel commented, “Usually we have a number of teams participate; and of course, the more teams we have, the better it is.
