✓--------------- Stat sheet Golf The Cougar golf team traveled down to Salem Friday to take third place with 323"points, behind Mt. Hood, 309; and Oregon College of Education, 319. The low scorer for Clackamas was Dan Hixson at 74. The team competed in the Mt. Hood Invitational which began at 11:30 this morning. Their next meet is the League Match which is a home meet at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla beginning at 12:30 next Tuesday. Women's tennis The College women’s tennis team brought their season record to 2-0 and began their league record at 1-0 after defeating Umpqua, 8-1, last Saturday. Pat Philpot won 6-0, 6-0; Bonnie Dillman defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1; Lisa Liechty won 6-2, 6-1; Wendy Ybung won 6-0, 6-4; and Debbie Birdsall was victorious 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, Kraxberger and Philpot were victorious, winning 6-1, 6-1, as were Liechty and Birdsall, 6-4, 6-3, and Dillman and Young, 6-0, 6-0. The women’s next encounter will be with Linn- Benton C.C. at 3 p.m. in Albany this Friday. Men's track The College’s men track team placed second in a track meet last Saturday with 85 points, below Linn-Benton C.C.’s 94 points, with Cougars quali fying for the nationals and breaking school records. Jim Colgan broke a school record and qualified for the nationals in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:49, and also qualified for the nationals in the steeple chase at 9:14. Jim Holme also qualifed for the nationals and broke a school record in the decathalon, collating 6,697 points. A school record was broken three times by John Martin, Larry Psic, and Dan Martin in the 400 relay with a time of 42 flat. Women's track Last Saturday the women’s track team took se cond as a team in their competition in Albany, scoi ing 39 points to Linn-Benton’s 71 and Umpqua' 32. Jackie Beaudry took first place in the 800 mete run at 2:24.12, ahead of Debbie Simon and Betl Kokesh, who took second and third at 2:29.59 and 2:31.35, respectively. In the 400 dash, Sue Hanneman took a firs place victory at 59.29, while Kelly Howard tool third at 0.13,23 in the 100 dash. Loretta Elbei placed third in the 200 dash at 29.09. Nancy Reynolds grabbed first place in the 5,O0( meters at 5:03.42, with Kokesh taking second a 5:07.44, while Beaudry took first place in ths 3,000 meters with a finishing time of 11:02.13. I Cyd McCormick took third place in the javelir event by tossing the spear 139’2,” while March Fisher grabbed fifth with a 90’33/4” toss. McCormick whirled the discus 112’3” for second place, as Fisher got her’s 79’8” for fourth place. Vanessa Dickey took fourth in the 100 hurdlej with a time of 19.43. Added to the list of national qualifiers with Cyd McCormick are Shavon Dennis and Sue Hart neman. ' CCC, PSU sponsor leadership clinic •S “The trend toward more local government control is placing greater demands on citizen involvement and yet, the pool of active participants is dwindling,” contends David Dickson, Community Develop ment coordinator» for the Col lege. In its attempt to give a more detailed look at the dynamics of voluntary citizen organiza tions, the College, in coopera tion with Portland State University, is sponsoring “Leadership ‘80s,” a series of workshops beginning April 18 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and continuing Tuesdays, April 21, 28, May 5 and 12, from 6:45-10 p.m. in the Communi ty Center. Conducted by key leaders from education, government and business, the workshops will offer ideas and practical ad vice helpful to run more effec tive meetings, raise money for projects, get more people in volved, and generally increase the effectiveness of the organization. Improving communication with an organization will be discussed by Dr. Al Siebert, a phychologist and author of “The Survivor Personality.” Ardis Stevenson, assistant director for Clackamas County Department of Environmental Services and/past chair of the Lake Oswego Planning Com mission, will consider the for mat of citizen groups, and Mark Millemann, a management trainer for Tektronix, will offer advice on conducting meetings and producing quality deci sions. Other discussion leaders in clude Arty Trost, president of a Portland-based organization consulting firm; Robert Ridgley, a Harvard Law School graduate, current chair of the Oregon School Board Associa tion, à trustee for Lewis and Clark College and former chair of the Portland School Board; Vince Kohler, a staff-reporter for “The Oregonian,” Shirley Lions, chair for the Mulino Area Neighborhood Associa tion and former vice-chair’for the Clackamas County Republican Party and the Clackamas Community Col lege Foundation. Leadership ‘80s is designed primarily for persons currently serving in a volunteer capacity on city and county boards and advisory bodies, school ad visory committees and parent clubs, civic organizations, neighborhood groups private non-profit boards!
