briefs Women rights Knowing your personal rights and using them to protect yourself and property is the subject of “Legal Rights of Women”, a Focus on Women seminar, at the College, Thur sday, May 31, in the Com munity Center, room 117, at 7 p.m. Judy Peabody, a former hearings officer for Clackamas County Night Prosecutors Programpwill lead the seminar which will feature a panel of at- ’ torneys and experts discussing . legal fights of women in em ployment, finance and relationships. Workshop The College’s developmen tal disabilities department will present a workshop on “The Causes and Prevention of Mental Retardation”, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College’s Barlow Hall Board Room. The workshop will deal with nutrition, genetic factors, pre natal and post-natal care and schooling as it involves mental Retardation and the mentally retarded. Women rec Women hiking around Mt. Hood, backpacking in the Goat Rocks Wilderness Area, bicycling in the Canadian Gulf Islands is the subject of a slide show scheduled ■ for May 30. The free show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the library at Ockley Gireeh School, 1315 N. Ainsworth in Portland. “I would like to encourage anyone who even remotely feels that they will need money next year to apply for financial aid,”, said Dick Thompson, College financial aid officer. “All it takes is a little time and a couple dollars for processing,” he said. “The returns on that could be in the hundreds of dollars.” Increased chances that College students can receive financial aid for the 1979-80 school year, have been made possible due to the Middle In come Assistance Act, Thom pson said.
