drink and be merry These holiday beverage recipes will help spice up a Christmas get-together or ring in the new year! Mix for Hot Buttered Rum Beat a cube of butter or margarine until creamy in a mixing bowl. Add a jugger of rum, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, x/4 teaspoon cloves, and one box of brown sugar. Beat again un til mixture is creamy. Christmas Punch Combine in a large saucepan or heatproof dish, 2 bottles of brandy (reserve small amount for later), 2 bottles of cham pagne, 1 pound of sugar and 1 pound of cubed fresh pineap ple. Heat to a foam but do rrot boil. Pour remaining brandy on top and blaze. Let burn for 1 minute and ladle into heated wine glasses. Irish Coffee Hot Rum Bowl 1 jigger Irish whiskey 1 jigger kahlua (or substitute) whipping cream In a heated tumbler place the Irish whiskey and fill with cof fee. Put whipping cream on top of the coffee and then pour (carefully) the kahlua on top. Hot Spice Cider Tom and Jerry 1 box sugar 1T. cinnamon 21. cloves 1T. allspice 2 gallons cider Heat all ingredients until sugar, has dissolved. Serve with a cinnamon stick to stir with. For each drink separate one egg and whip the egg white with a little powdered sugar un til it peaks. Fold the egg yolk in to it Add hot water or milk and one jigger of bourbon and mix. Sprinkle with nutmeg. 1 quart rum 3 quarts sweet apple cider 1 c. brown sugar 1 c. powdered sugar 1 c. boiling water butter nutmeg In a saucepan dissolve sugar in boiling water. Add cider and heat. Add rum and 1 or 2 generous teaspoons butter. Place in a heated bowl and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve in mugs. sweet attacks. English toffee x/2 lb. butter (not margarine) 1 c.sugar 1/4 c. water Melt slowly in heavy skillet, In- crease heat and bring to boil. Turn heat down to medium high, stirring constantly. Spirit or Bourbon Balls 2 j /2 c . finely crushed package These easy sweets recipes vanilla wafers 1 c. powdered sugar will help get through unexpec 1 c. bourbon, sherry or brandy ted guests and after-shopping 1 c. finely chopped walnuts or shredded coconut 3 T. corn syrup 2T. cocoa Mix all ingredients, roll into balls 1” in diameter. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired. Yields 31/? dozen.
