sports Tennis team lacks opponen Riding the crest of improved play from their third and fourth players Judy Dancer and Jerry Trosko,the women's tennis team enjoyed a 6-0 victory over Linn- Benton and a tie with Blbe Mountain. The Cougars match with Linn- Benton, at home last Friday, was a short one. The Albany school was only able to field three players and had to forfeit three matches which enabled Clacka mas to win easily. Two of the Cougar victories in singles action were recorded by Dancer and Trosko, two girls who generally aren't depended on to come through with big victories. "I was especially impressed with Trosko's victory over Retha Bouma because she showed me that she can be very aggressive at the net and that is very encourag ing," Head Coach Gladys Mich ael said. Nugen also scored PR's in the long jump with a 20-4 leap, and 171-9 in the javelin. Doug Oberst missed the Nat ional qualifying mark but man aged to win the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:45.0. This meet marked Oberst's first race in 2% weeks. Preston Martin again bettered his previous personal record in the high jump with a 6-4 leap. Martin barely missed at 6-6, grazing the bar just enough to knock it down. Dan Jackson threw the discus 148-11 to take the competition while Randy Bolliger bested in that event with a 129-1. Bolliger won the shot put, his specialty, with 50-91/a. "Dave Rudishauser won the 400 meters in 50.9. It was a very good run for him and a personal best," Tipton said. "Dave also had an outstanding run in the winning mile relay team." The mile relay team of Joseph Jones, Don Brown, Rudishauser, and Kelly Britz blazed their way to a 3:23.8 finish. "The track was hard and stiff, so rather than punishing the run ners, I had them compete in few er events than they normally would. We're just practicing for the end of the season now," Tipton said. Joseph Jones won the 100 meter in 10.9. According to Tipton only one watch was used to officially time the race in stead of the usual three. Some of the unofficial watches had Jones timed at 10.8 and 10.7 which would have qualified him for the Nationals. "Curt Lowrey ¡s really coming back this season," Tipton said. "He seta personal best of 188-10 in the javelin while Mike Murphy took third with 180-4." Don Brown matched his own time of 4:01.72 in the mile. Kelly Britz won the 800-meters in 1:54.7 and is expected to hit the 1:53.8 National qualifying mark soon. Also expected to move-up is Eric Hulstrom who ran the 5000-meters in 16.37. A Clackamas alumni, Lynn Teuscher won the 400 and inter- mediate hurdles in 14.9 and 55.2, respectively, Other placers were Dave Reed, the winner Jn the high jump and Ken Wanvig who placed fourth in the 1500 meters with a 4:06.95. Hood Community College Invitational, the College golf team finished miserable because the winning score, totalled by Umpqua, was 297, and Clackamas wasn't that far back with 318. The scores were that tightly bunched. Curt Adamski covered the Gresham Golf Club in 73 strokes, his best showing so far. Eric Chemeketa won with a 310 total compared to Clackamas' 342. Doug Neuman of Umpqua, who has proven to be one of the finest players in the league so far this season, was medalist with a grinning 70. The next league match will be at Arrowhead Golf Club, Friday, April 21, at noon.
