sports Tennis team splits matches The men's tennis team suffer ed both ups and downs in their play last week. Clackamas won against Judson Baptist and Con cordia but lost to Mt. Hood, Multnomah School of Bible, and Chemeketa. Friday they suffered a 4-2 setback by Chemeketa. Mike Maynard, Clackamas, won his. sets 6-2, 6-3. Buddy Patnode, Dave Riggs, Sam Picken, Duane Wiegand, and Phil Rider lost their matches, however. In doubles action Maynard and Patnode combined for a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win. The Cougars emer ged with 166 points compared to Lane's 152. Randy Bolliger and Dan Jackson recorded new school records and Preston Mar tin a personal best. Bolliger put the shot 52-4 to up his old record and take that competition. Jackson finished second to Bolliger in the shot but set a discus record of 155- 10% with Bolliger in third with 124. Preston Martin cleared 6-3% for a personal best. Right be hind him was Dave Grosnickle also at that height but with more misses. "Preston had a super day. Joe Jones and Maynard made up for their trouble in the relay with a first and third in the 100- yard dash. Jones was clocked at 10.0 and Maynard at 10.4. Jones tripled with his jump of 21-1/2 to win the high jump and decathlete Mark Nugen took third at 19-9 %. Nugen took second in a two-man 120-yard high hurdle race in 17.5, second in the pole vault behind Dave Grosnickle who won at 13-0, and third in a Clackamas sweep of the javelin. Mike Murphy took the javelin competition at 180-9%, Curt Lowery was second with 167-9, Nugen third with 166-11 and Larry Heller fourth with a throw of 166-1/2. Triple jumper Dave Reed who last year qualified for the Nat ionals could not collect himself against Lane's Mike Yeoman. Reed jumped 44-8/2 for second. His best mark is 45-7. Eric Holmstrom scored second place points in the three-mile with a 16:04.8 behind Scott Spruill of Lane.
