THE GRANTONIAN Cagers practicing I Coyill CcmmentA G-men to utilize speed by Steve Johnson With six returning lettermen from last year’s State champion ship team, the Varsity basketball squad has begun preparations to defend their crown. Senior Artie Wilson, a great leaper, heads the list of indi viduals turning out for the squad. He is the only returning starter and was selected to the Honorable Mention portion of last year’s All City team, as a guard. At the post positions, senior Steve Crane and June Jones, a junior, seem to have the inside track. Crane is an excellent shot and was a part-time starter a year ago. Jones played on the JV team last year, but during the State Tournament, he played Varsity and showed great prom ise. Versatile Robin Sinclair will probably start at one of the other guard spots. Tim Myers, a speed ster, ball-hawking Jackie Chinn, and defensive ace Dan Percich are battling it out for the third guard position. Others out for the varsity squad include seniors Steve Hopkins, Jerry Dukes, and Greg Schukart. Juniors out for the team are Tim Stambaugh, Steve Russell, Dave Poppinga, Pat Walker, and Eddie Lincoln.
