Kathleen Bennett, Nett Jacobsen anong top math students in city “It was fun, but just a little hard,” commented Neil Jacob sen, speaking on the final test given by the Math Association of America. The tests began in early March with the first being held in the library, with three juniors and three seniors winning places for Ralph and Vi DeLashmitt . 288-5509—ALL HOURS 4175 N.E. The city-wide test was held at Washington high school with six students representing each city high school. “The test lasted all morning, with the first elimination to 16 seniors and juniors and the sec ond to five seniors and four jun iors,” stated Neil. Kathleen Bennett and Neil Ja cobsen were chosen from Grant. Last Saturday, another test was held at Washington high school. “Nine people were pres ent taking the test,” commented Neil. “It lasted three hours, and had a total of eight questions. Auditions for the Dad’s Club show have been postponed until April 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium in order to give more students a chance to perfect their acts. “Four Blocks Off Broadway” has been selected as the title of the annual fund-raising event to be held May 10-11. According to Ray Feves, Dad’s Club vice-president in charge of publicity, a new feature has been added, “On April 24-25 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. the PTA will as sist members of the Dad’s Club in phoning every Grant parent. This will be done in order to find out how many tickets each fam ily will want and will enable the Dads to have the tickets in the mail by the next day.” Using switchboards of the Hol lywood branches of the US and First National banks, up to 20 phone calls can be made at one time. 'Pot luck' success, club plans picnic “It was really fun. Everyone that came had such a good time that we’re planning another get- together on April 21,” comment ed Sterling Bennett on the Ger man students’ recent banquet. Organized by Inga Burger, for eign exchange student from Aus tria and Janet Jump, her Ameri can sister, the dinner was a pot luck lasting from 6:00-10:00 p.m. “Now we’re planning a picnic for a week from Sunday,” added Sterling. “We’re all going to meet at the Jumps’ house and then proceed to Mt. Tabor park.” “At the first dinner everyone was supposed to speak in Ger man only. Broadway 284-5955 Beautification conference delegates participate in discussion, planning A delegation of fifteen stu dents will attend the Portland Youth Conference on Beautifica tion and Litter Prevention to morrow in the Multnomah Coun ty library. Forensic members win at District, enter State meet “We did really well, and I’m proud of them all,” commented Mrs. Opal Hamilton, speech in structor, speaking on the State district tournament which was held at University of Portland, last weekend. The winners in this meet are the future representatives for the upcoming state tournament April 18-20, at University of Oregon. Taking first place trophies were: John Luik and Jim Wink ler, Oxford Debate; Bob Hel- fond, Humorous; Tim Kehoe, After Dinner, and Jim Winkler, Extemporaneous and Impromp tu. Second place winners were: Jane Nichols, Serious; Bob Hel- fond, Oratory; John Luik, Ex temporaneous and Impromptu. Other winners were: Loz Klonoff for Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Tim Kehoe, Humorous. Receiving honorable mention were: Teri Jones, Norm Curry and Dave Hytowitz. The large display of the tro phies won by the Speech depart ment can be seen in the show windows in center hall. Cafeteria adds new food display cases “After several years of nag ging, we finally got new food display cases in the cafeteria,” beamed Mrs. Viola Runyon, cafe teria manager.” Five new stainless-steel and glass display cases were installed in the cafeteria this week, thanks to the persistent requests of the cafeteria staff. Made according to specifica tions by the school district, the total cost of the five cabinets is over $500. Marc Mooney, Kathy Fifield, Greg Walsh, Teri Jones, David Alexander, Mike Jenkins, Karo- lyn Karoll, Barb Gould, Dan Aiken, Gary Stroud and Gaylen Kiltow will take part in round table discussions. Watching mov ies, a cola break and a free drawing are also scheduled for the conference to be attended by area students. According to Portland Beauti fication association; Clean and Beautiful, Inc., and the Izaak Walton league the purpose of the meetings and seminars is to con vey to senior high students the importance of beautification and litter prevention in their every day life, relative to their schools, community and state.
